Description

The objective of this 3-day course, which takes place in the Maurienne valley in Savoie, is to prepare you for the probationary examination for the mountain leader state diploma and thus optimise your chances of success.

This module covers the following topics:

  • Preparation for orienteering: training on orienteering routes and navigation strategy (movements).
  • Training for the varied terrain test: techniques for evolving in difficult terrain.
  • Preparation for the interview and the MCQ: strategy and stress management.

Meeting point: Saint-Jean-d'Arves in the Maurienne valley.

Pre-requisite:

  • To have a personal practice of the discipline, basic knowledge and a personal and professional project.
  • The trainee must be registered for the exam or in the process of taking the exam in the short term.

The advantages of the training:

  • An evolution on areas with different morphologies: alpine reliefs (a priori easier), Nordic reliefs (navigation and map reading more delicate).
  • Alternating sessions in the field (orienteering course) and theoretical sessions in the classroom (MCQs, simulated interviews).
  • Individualised follow-up.

  • Permanent orientation courses with several circuits.

This course can be followed by the second part taking place in the Bauges massif, in order to take the complete preparation course for the probationary mountain leader exam.

Program

D1:

  • Review of the basics.
  • Practical orientation exercises.

D2:

  • Orienteering (timed race, probationary exam type).
  • Work on the MCQ.

D3:

  • Orienteering (timed race, probationary exam type).
  • Exercise in varied terrain.
  • Viewing and analysis of the varied terrain (video work).
