Description

Located between the valleys of Maurienne and Tarentaise, in the heart of the Vanoise National Park, this hiking / trekking tour will make you discover nature and traditions totally preserved.

During summer, the pastures are covered with flowers, the pastoral activity is intense and the famous Beaufort is made there. Marmots, chamois, ibex and bearded vulture, also take advantage of this short period of abundance to regain strength after a long winter.

In six stages, which will take you each evening to a different hut, you will discover all the richness of this exceptional massif. You will leave the beaten tracks to get closer to the glaciers, observe the flora and fauna, enjoy the tranquility of a mountain lake ...

Program

This itinerary is given as an indication, it can be modified in case of unavailability of some accommodations, of bad weather conditions or for security reasons.

D1: Pralognan-la-Vanoise (1418m) > Col de la Vanoise hut (2516m).
Meet at 10am in front of the tourism office. After the presentations, we take the direction of the hamlet of Fontanettes and continue to the chalets of Glière. You are at the foot of the Aiguille de la Vanoise and facing you, the glacier of the Grand Couloirs and the summit of the Grande Casse. From here, you leave the main path to approach the slopes of Moriond and reach the Cirque de l'Arcelin and the hut of the Col de la Vanoise.

D2: Refuge of the Col de la Vanoise > Pierre Blanche Pass > La Femma hut (2352m).
You leave the refuge and walk along the Vanoise stream which flows towards Maurienne. You are dominated by the Pointe Matthews (3783m), antecime of the Grande Casse and the Pointe de la Réchasse (3212m), which marks the entrance of the glaciers of the Vanoise. At the Croé Vie bridge, you go up the Vallon de la Leisse, then leave the bottom of the valley to join the Pierre Blanche Pass (2842m). You are in the heart of the park and you should be able to observe many marmots and chamois without much difficulty. Descent into the Vallon de la Rocheure and overnight at the refuge of the Femma.

D3: Femma hut > Arpont hut (2309m).
You go down the vallon de la Rocheuse to cross the torrent of Leisse. From here, 300 meters of ascent allow you to join the balcony path which dominates the valley of Haute-Maurienne. A little off-trail tour makes you discover many lakes in a mineral universe at the foot of the Pelve glacier and the Dome of Chasseforêt.

D4: Arpont hut > Plan Sec hut (2316m) > Dent Parrachée hut.
Dominated by the Dent Parrachée, the balcony path that will take you to the refuge of Plan Sec offers wonderful views of the valley of the Haute-Maurienne, the Cerces Massif, the Ecrins and the border ridge. Fauna, flora and mountain chalets will be at the rendezvous of this beautiful stage.

D5: Dent Parrachée hut > Pointe de l'Observatoire (3016m) > Les Prioux (1710m).
Easy departure towards the refuge of the Fond d'Aussois and a 700 meters climb will lead you to the Pointe de l'Observatoire at 3016m above sea level, the highest peak of your stay. By the Aussois Pass, you will go back to Tarentaise and to the Vallon de Chavière. Short stop on the Ruitor meadow to taste a piece of Beaufort and you leave for an hour and a half walk to the hamlet of Prioux where the refuge is.

  • 6 hours of walking
  • Altitude difference: +820m / -1250m

D6: Les Prioux > Vallette hut (2600m).
You continue your tour of the glaciers of the Vanoise by a wild and uncrowded itinerary that will undoubtedly allow you to observe many chamois. From the refuge, you will reach the Vallonnet Pass, the Thurges Pass and the Vallette refuge.

  • Altitude difference: +1100m / -350m

D7: Valette hut > Circus of Grand Marchet> Pralognan.
Last stage of this tour. By the Col du Tambour, you reach the Circus of Petit Marchet and the Grand Marchet. You observe for the last time the chamois, numerous in this sector, and begin the descent towards Pralognan.

End of the trek at about 1pm in Pralognan-la-Vanoise.
