The archbishop of Canterbury, Sigerico, around the year 1000, left for Rome and Jerusalem, crossing all Italy. His path was called Via Francigena. This route of the Alps runs through Tuscany, and it is one of the most beautiful landscapes in Italy and one of the richest in terms of art and history.
With trails through olive groves, vineyards and cypress forests, you will cross charming medieval villages such as San Gimignano or Monteriggioni. The route starts from the marvelous Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa and ends at the elegant Piazza del Campo in Siena, as was the case for the ancient pilgrims on their way to the history of Tuscany ...

Arrival in Florence. Reception at the airport and transfer by public bus to the hotel in the city center. Presentation of the trip before dinner which takes place in a typical restaurant. Night at the hotel.
D2: Florence (urban hike, 5h).
Nice walking day to discover Florence, the capital of the Italian Renaissance. From the city center and through an urban hike, you will pass by the most famous places in Florence: the Duomo, the Baptistery, the Church of Santa Maria Novella, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio. In the day you will hike on the hill that surrounds the city of Florence to enjoy a magnificent panorama. Typical dinner and overnight at the hotel.
D3: San Miniato - Gambassi Terme (6 hours walk, +400 m, -230 m, 19 km).
Train to San Miniato (30 min.). You will start the Via Francigena from the medieval village of San Miniato. Famous for the production of white truffle, it is known for its old town. Among the fields of barley and hills, you will hike in the Tuscan countryside, passing the farms and ancient churches, to the Pieve di Coiano in the village of Gambassi Terme. Dinner and overnight at the Gambassi Terme pilgrim inn.
D4: Gambassi - San Gimignano (4 hours walk, + 340m, -330m, 14km).
After the "white roads", the wide forest tracks of white breccias, you will discover the beauty of the hilly countryside of vineyards. Wine production is very popular in this area. In the distance, you will see the towers of San Gimignano, one of the most beautiful medieval villages of Italy and which is perfectly preserved (classified at Unesco heritage). Dinner in pizzeria and overnight at hotel *** in San Gimignano.
D5: San Gimignano - Colle Val D'Elsa (5 hours walk, + 370m, -310m, 17 km).
From San Gimignano, you will enter the heart of the Val d'Elsa, crossed by the river of the same name and former strategic point between Florence and Siena. The village of Colle Val d'Elsa is on a hill of tufa, a rock of volcanic origin. History tells us that Colle Val d'Elsa is famous for producing glass. Dinner and overnight at the hotel *** in Colle Val d'Elsa.
D6: Colle Val d'Elsa - Monteriggioni (5 hours walk, +350 m, -400 m, 18 km)
Today's path evolves in the oak forests and plants used in the local economy since the Middle Ages for the construction of buildings. Deer, wild boar and fox are easy to spot. You will arrive at the tiny stone village of Strove, surrounded by woods and fields, and after a little refreshing break, you will leave for Monteriggioni, a medieval architectural jewel. Typical dinner and overnight in hotel in Monteriggioni countryside.
D7: Monteriggioni - Siena (5h30 walk, + 330m, -280m, 18 km).
A breath of the past in this stage through the Tuscan countryside: castles and medieval towers. Through the olive groves and small rivers, you will arrive in Siena, the beautiful Tuscan town. Famous all over the world for its monuments such as the Duomo decorated with white and green marble, Piazza del Campo known for the "palio" and the Torre del Mangia, Siena will be the final destination of the walking tour through history. Dinner in a typical restaurant and overnight in hotel in Siena.
After breakfast, public transfer to Florence station and airport.
The itineraries are given as an indication. They can be modified according to the climatic conditions of the moment, the technical criteria or the physical condition of the participants. The guide remains the only judge of the program that can be adapted because of security requirements.
