Description

Go for this beautiful stay of hikes in the "Colours of Prevence" and discover the Camargue, the Alpilles, the Lubéron, the Sainte-Victoire mountain and the Calanques de Marseille in a different way.

This itinerant hiking circuit of moderate difficulty offers you:

  • 6 days in total, with 5 days and a half of hiking of moderate level.
  • Hiking coached by a mountain professional.
  • A selection of the best hiking sites in Provence.
  • 9 seats private bus trips.
  • From 4 to 8 participants + 1 mountain leader.

Program

D1: Visit of the ancient city of Arles.
Arrival at Avignon TGV train station at the beginning of the afternoon (1.30pm). Direction Arles, where you will reach your hotel directly in order to deposit your luggage. Then you will discover the city center, with these 2500 years of history contemplating you. Arles has preserved its heritage, all periods of history are there, making it an open-air museum.
Accommodation: Hotel Acacias in the city center.
Private bus transfer: 30min.
Walk: 2 to 3 hours.

D2: Regional Natural Park of Camargue and Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer.
Discovery of the swanps, of the local fauna and of course of the Mediterranean Sea. A perfect day to enjoy good maritime fresh air, to admire the flight of flamingos, to feel the sand under your feet, and why not to have a swim in the afternoon.
Accommodation: Hotel Acacias in the city center of Arles.
Private bus transfer: 1h.
Walk: 5 to 6h / 16km.

D3: Regional Natural Park of the Alpilles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
First hike around the ancient site of Glanum, a sanctuary city at the crossroads of two routes connecting Italy and Spain. Then, after the picnic and a short transfer, you will go to Lubéron in the surprising Gorge of Régalon. You will climb in this little canyon with its crooked laurels and other endemic species. At the end of the afternoon, before joining the accommodation, short visit of the picturesque village of Lourmarin.

Walk: 6h / 14km / 400m of positive elevation.

D4: Hiking in the Lubéron.
The Lubéron has a rich history marked by men. First, a human presence attested for the first time 130,000 years ago. A strategic passage for the Romans (120 BC): this is the Domitian Way. Then a Swiss community rather heretical will settle there. You will start your hike from the hostel, and join the fort of Buoux before reaching the Pelat de Buoux which rises to 902m. A small summit that will not let you indifferent since you will see the whole region. Back at the end of the afternoon at the hostel.
Accommodation: Auberge des Seguins.
Walk: 5h to 6h / 12km / 500m+.

D5: Let's go for the massif of Sainte Victoire mountain!
One hour transfer to reach the start of the trail. On the program, a rocky massif, more technical, some altitude but very beautiful sensations. Ascension to the Priory and the Croix de Provence. At the top, you dominate the Provence, and it is with a magnificent panorama that you can contemplate it.
Accommodation: Hotel Carré, on the old port of Marseille*.
Private bus transfer: 1h45.
Walk: 6h / 11km / 700m+.
* Depending on weather conditions or accommodation, possibility of modifying the program for the Calanques.

D6: Hiking in the Calanques of Marseille.
Last day in Provence, and for that I booked for you the most spectacular of the region: the Calanques of Marseille. Discovery of the magnificent cliffs of Sormiou, Morgiou and Sugiton, of the cool breeze of mistral that caresses your face, and of the blue colors breathtaking skies. End of the stay at Saint-Charles SNCF train station in Marseille around 5.30pm.
Walk: 6h / 13km / 600m+.

  • Transport to Avignon and return by train the last day.

Accommodation

  • 2 nights in Arles at the Brit Hotel Acacias in the heart of the city center.
  • 2 nights in Buoux, at the Auberge des Seguins in the Luberon Regional Nature Park (½ board).
  • 1 night at the hotel Carré du vieux port in Marseille.

In case the hotels are full or unavailable, I might change accommodation.
