Description

This course in the Mont Blanc Massif aims to understand the fascinating world of glaciers.

I will share my experience as a glaciologist to help you understand the origin of glaciers, the processes of their formation, their life, and their melting: recognize the different areas of a glacier, and their respective roles in its balance. Know the scientific methods of monitoring glaciers. How to predict their future?

From a more global point of view, we will discuss their place in the climate system, their role, their impact, and their uncertain future.
You will also be able to observe how human settlements are managed in front of glacial risk.

All these questions will be addressed during a hike to one of the most fabulous viewing points of the Mont Blanc Massif, where you can touch these giants while contemplating their immensity.

Program

This workshop on the theme of glacial declin will take place mainly outside and the contributions of knowledge will be done during the hike. If the group is sporty, we will have the opportunity to climb to the Jonction between the glaciers of Taconnaz and Bossons. Glaciers will be close to you. However, the Mont Blanc Massif has the advantage of offering its glaciers to the general public, and many breathtaking glacial sites are accessible by easy steps.
