"La Guinguette" via ferrata in Hostiaz (Ain)

Description

The magnificent site of Hostiaz in the department of Ain offers two via ferrata routes that can be done separately or linked together for the pleasure of most people.

Both itineraries have the privilege to make you discover the very picturesque village of Hostiaz perched on a plateau, as well as magnificent views on the city of Tenay and the whole valley of the Albarine.

The first route, called "La Grotte" (the cave), is fun and not very sporty, but still offers great sensations at an affordable level. After a wooded descent from the top of the cliff, you reach a 6 meter long cable bridge that you have to cross facing the void. The view on the valley is breathtaking! You continue the course by descending the ladder of the tichodrome, 4 meters high, then by crossing a beam which leads to a comfortable ledge. The next part offers a beautiful vertiginous traverse interspersed with several beams 3 to 4 meters long and a small steep wall 3 meters high, until you reach the junction with the Buis route. You can follow the latter to continue on the second part or exit through the loophole routes, one of which uses the steep parrot ladder.

The second very sportive route called "Les Buis" (the boxwoods) proposes to cross the big cliff alternating overhanging passages and narrow ledges, 200 meters above the Albarine valley. The itinerary starts with vertiginous crossings on horizontal ledges up to a suspended platform, then descends vertically by 4 meters to reach the yellow overhang, a 15 meter wall on the right, slightly overhanging. Atmosphere guaranteed! Narrow, horizontal, open air passages lead to the earthy slopes of the large gardens. The vertiginous ascent that follows leads to the superb 15 meter long moving footbridge of the "saut de mouton" which will give you some emotions. A vertical wall of 7 meters followed a little higher by another slightly overhanging wall leads to the plateau and ends the via.

The "integral" version, a combination of the two parts, will delight you in an impressive, long and serious crossing of the cliff...

Program

• Meeting point at Hostiaz in the Ain department, half an hour drive from Belley, Ambérieu-en-Bugey or Geneva.
• Approach walking of ten minutes to reach the start of the via.
• Between 2 and 3 hours to climb the via ferrata.
• Return walking of fifteen minutes to go back to the car park.

• Supervision by the climbing instructor.
• Technical equipment necessary to practice the activity: harness, double via ferrata lanyard with energy absorber, helmet.
• Group rate from 6 persons (from the same group) otherwise 39€/person.
