Description

Great compromise between cultural visits and hiking in the foothills of the Himalayas, this trekking in the Helambu will immerse you in the culture of Sherpas, their good food, their home and their interiors so well decorated.

If you do this trek in the spring, you will also have the opportunity to discover nature in bloom: rhododendrons, orchids, carnations of India... landscapes not to be missed!

For your information, I also propose other routes in this region of Nepal:

Program

D1: Kathmandu - Chisapani (2215m).
Transport to Sundarijal, which is the starting point of the trek. This one begins with a climb, and you will see on the way the source of water that supplies half of the water of Kathmandu. After a steep climb to the Tamang village of Mulkharka, the trail crosses the forest to Borlang Bhanjyang and a small pass at 2420 meters of altitude, then descends to Chisapani where you have a magnificent view of the central Himalayas, with the Gaurishankar, Annapurnas to the west, Manaslu and Ganesh Himal.
About 5 hours of walking.

D2: Chisapani - Kutumasang (2470m).
The day starts with a pleasant walk along the crest of a hill. You can see some a terraced rice field and, then, with a beautiful view on the peaks, the trail descends to Pati Bhanjyang, a Tamang village, and then goes up to Chipling. You have lunch there then continue on the stony path to Gul Bhajyng crossing a small forest with a chorten and a stupa to visit eventually.
About 6 to 7 hours of walking.

D3: Kutumsang - Tharepati (3510m).
You start the day with a steep climb through a huge rhododendron forest to Magan Goth, a wild place with only two houses. You continue walking through the birch forest to Tharepati and its beautiful views of the Gaurishankar, Baudha Himal, Ganjela, Dorje Lakpa and other peaks.
About 5 to 6 hours of walking.

D4: Tharepati - Milamchi Ghyang (2530m).
You start with a steep descent to the east through a rhododendron wet forest. Domestic animals are visible on the way and a wooden suspension bridge leads you easily to Milamchi Ghyang, a well organized Sherpa village where people live from their agriculture and livestock. Manis wall and some chortens are visible.
About 3 hours of walking.

D5: Milamchi Ghyang - Tarke Ghyang (2740m).
The trail continues down to the Milamche Khola river that you cross. Follow an easy walk through the wheat fields then a steep climb to Tarke Ghyang, another important Sherpa village, whose roofs are blue. You are at the foot of Amayangri, a 3771 meters high point of view, and can visit an important monastery in the center of the village.
About 4 to 5 hours of walking.

D6: Tarke Ghyang - Sermathang (2621m).
Today the trail is fairly easy across flat lands and beautiful forests. You spend the night in Shermathang, another charming sherpa village where you can visit many ancient monasteries and can see the Jugal Himal.
About 5 to 6 hours of walking.

D7: Sermanthang - Melamchi Pul (900m) - Kathmandu.
The region becomes richer through agriculture and education of the population. You descend effortlessly to the bottom of the valley and cross a bridge just before reaching Milamchi Pul (870m), end of the trekking. You have lunch here and then take the bus to Kathmandu.
About 4 hours of walking, then another 4 hours by bus or 4WD vehicle to the capital.
