Description

With wide valleys and accessible summits, the Vanoise National Park is perfect for snowshoeing at altitude.

This itinerary I propose here is taking place at the foot of the Grande Casse (3855m), the highest point of Savoie. Alone to make our tracks in grandiose spaces, we will have the possibility to observe chamois, ptarmigan and, depending on the season, the star lady marmot. In 4 days, you will link Tignes to Val-d'Isère by making the tour of the Pointe de la Sana.

This alpine snowshoeing trek takes place in the high mountains in a wild and unspoilt area, with all the constraints that this imposes in terms of weather conditions, accommodation and portage.

Accommodation is in pleasant refuges in the Vanoise National Park, where you will remember the welcome of the wardens.

You have to carry your personal belongings during the four days.

If the schedulded dates do not suit you, do not hesitate to propose yours.

It's also possible to visit this beautiful place in summer on this 4-day trek to the high peaks of Vanoise.

For gourmets, I also offer snowshoeing with fondue tasting in an igloo in Méribel throughout the winter.

And if you like snowy treks, I propose other magnificent itineraries in the region:

Program

D1: From Tignes tothe Leisse hut.
Meet at Bourg-Saint-Maurice station at 8am.
Breakfast will be taken together for a first moment of exchange and conviviality. Presentation of the stay and distribution of the participants in the different vehicles. This also allows you to check the contents of the backpack so that you only carry the essentials. You will then go to Le Manchet above Val-d'Isère to leave vehicles, then to Tignes, the starting point of the hike. The organisation of this logistics takes up a good part of the morning. You leave the forest of pylons and enter the Vanoise National Park to reach the Col de la Leisse (2761m). The descent through the valley of the same name leads you to the Leisse hut (2487m), at the foot of the Grande Motte.
Positive altitude difference: 650 meters, negative altitude difference: 270 meters, distance: 9km, duration: 4 hours.

D2: Pierre Blanche pass and Femma hut.
Long stage with a very gentle relief gives you time to observe the chamois and marmots which should be at the rendez-vous. You start by climbing up to the Col de Pierre Blanche (2842m), a magnificent passage overlooking the valley of La Rocheure. You then descend on the same slope to reach the bottom of the Leisse valley at the foot of the peaks of the Grande Casse, as far as the confluence of Entre-Deux-Eaux. You then go up the valley of La Rocheure, in search of the chamois grazing on the south faces to reach the warmth of the refuge of La Femma (2352m) where you spend the night.
D+: 710m, D-: 850m, distance: 19km, duration: 6h15.

D3: Magnificent crossing in high mountain.
5 small passes are on the program for this beautiful hike, without any real difficulty, which takes you up to an altitude of 3000 meters. You start by climbing the slopes leading to the Col du Pisset (2958m). A small pass (2980m) then opens the doors to the cirque of the north face of the Pointe de Méan Martin. After skirting the Fours glacier, you climb to the Col des Roches (2973m). After another small pass, you reach the Pointe de la Met (3041m), the highest point of the hike. The last pass, the Col de Bézin (2976m) takes you back into the valley leading to the Fond des Fours refuge (2537m).
D+: 890m, D-: 710m, distance: 12km, duration: 5h45.

D4: Beautiful loop and return to Val d'Isère.
A large zigzag allows you to reach the base of the Points de Lorès. Our highest point is reached at hill 2864. After passing through Les Pissets, a wide circular movement at the foot of the Barmes de L'Ours glacier and the Pointe de la Sana leads you near the Croix du Pisset (2777m). You can then let yourself slide into the Charvet stream. The gorge narrows and the snowshoe hike takes on the appearance of canyoning. You thus arrive at Le Manchet, the end of our journey. You collect the vehicles left in Tignes. Arrival expected at Bourg-Saint-Maurice station around 6pm.
D+: 700m, D-: 1130m, distance: 16km, duration: 5h15.
