Description

I propose a day of snowshoeing in the mountains of Albiez-Montrond in the Maurienne region, with exceptional panoramic views at an altitude of over 2000 meters. You're sure to be enchanted by the beauty of the scenery.

We'll start by walking along a ridge to see chamois a hundred meters away, grazing on the slopes below or lying in the sun. Then, after a short hike, we'll have lunch in a high-altitude restaurant.

The hike continues in a magnificent area, dominated by the famous and impressive Aiguilles d'Arves, with always an exceptional panorama to take pictures of for souvenirs.

We'll be walking on the moraine left by glaciers during the Little Ice Age, one story among many. Occasionally, a whitecoat will scurry out from under our feet, and in a few jumps it's long gone.

With a chairlift ascent and descent that make this escapade accessible, the walking time is around 4 hours, and it's possible to shorten the hike in the middle of the day just after the restaurant.

You'll need your own vehicle to get to the start of the hike.

This hike takes place on Wednesdays, and can be organized any day of the week.

An identical hike is possible, on the same route, but without the restaurant, i.e. with a picnic from your bag.

If you're looking for other great winter experiences, I also offer night snowshoe hikes with fondue in Albiez, snowshoe outings in the Maurienne forests, and avalanche rescue training.

Program

  • Meet at 9am with your vehicle, snowshoes and hiking poles, drinks for the day and snacks according to your habits, hiking boots that protect the ankle, clothing and equipment suitable for a winter day in the mountains, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.
  • 20-minute transfer to the chairlift departure point.
  • 5-minute chairlift ride to the start of the hike, where the panorama is truly exceptional.
  • Lunch at the high-altitude restaurant around midday.
  • The hike continues at around 1.30pm, to the top of the chairlift which takes us down for a short walk before returning to the parking lot.
  • Around 4.15pm, we return to the meeting point.

As we'll be close to each other all day, but outside the secure ski area, I'll provide you with avalanche rescue equipment consisting of: 1 avalanche beacon, 1 probe, 1 shovel and a 25-liter backpack in which you can put your gear for the day.

I'll explain how this easy-to-use equipment works.
