Description

I would like to introduce you to Lozère, one of France's least populated departments, where the countryside is still very wild and unspoilt.

A change of scenery is guaranteed on this tour of the broom-scented Mont Lozère, through chestnut forests and century-old beech groves.

This hike is for walkers capable of a daily effort of around 5 to 8 hours.

The solitude and length of the route make it a long-distance hike.

Program

D1: Arrival in Villefort.
Arrival at 5pm in Villefort, at the "Mas des Sédaries" where we spend the night (double room).
Presentation of your stay, preparation and welcome aperitif.

D2: Villefort - Mont Lozère resort.
We leave the lodge and head for the Mont Lozère resort. This route takes us from hamlet to hamlet through a chestnut forest.
Accommodation at the"Relais des cerfs" in a double room.
Positive altitude difference: 1050 meters, negative altitude difference: 600 meters, distance: 25km, duration: about 8 hours.

D3: Mont Lozère resort - hamlet of La Fage.
We start the day with a climb to the Pic de Finiels or Mont Lozère (1699m), then head for the Croix de Maitre Vidal on an off-trail route along a ridge line.
Accomodation at the Fage lodge, in dormitory.
D+: 750m, D-: 650m, distance: 24km, duration: 8 hours.

D4: La Fage hamlet - Florac.
A quieter day, with a trail that takes us to the menhirs, then on to Florac, which we visit before reaching our accommodation of the "Relais des Cévennes" in double room.
D+: 200m, D-: 850m, distance: 16km, duration: 5 hours.

D5: Florac - Pont de Montvert.
Today's stage of the trek takes you to the Signal du Bougès, before descending through fields of broom to Pont de Montvert.
Accommodation at the communal lodge in a dormitory.
D+: 1200m, D-: 850m, distance: 27km, duration: about 8 hours.

D6: Pont de Montvert - Villefort.
The longest stage of the tour takes us along the Tarn, where we can admire an ancient stone bridge. Then we cross a forest of hundred-year-old beech trees before starting the descent to our accommodation, the "Mas des Sédaries" for a night in double room.
D+: 800m, D-: 1050m, distance: 30km, duration: 9 hours.

D7: End of stay.
After breakfast, it's time to go our separate ways.

  • Supervision by the mountain leader.
  • Accommodation in double rooms and lodges (6-person dormitories).
  • Meals throughout your stay, from D1 to D7.
  • Luggage transfer (weight limited to 6kg per person).

The price does not include

  • Return transport to Villefort, about an hour's drive from Alès or Mende.
  • Snacks.
  • Additional drinks.
  • Anything not mentioned in "The price includes".

Accommodation

  • Mas de Sédaries, Relais des cerfs and Relais des Cévennes in double rooms.
  • La Fage and Pont de Mont Vert lodges in dormitory for 5 or 6 people reserved for the group.
