Rouanne via ferrata (Ancelle, Champsaur)

Description

The Champsaur valley north of Gap is one of the gateways to the Écrins National Park, characterized by its vast wilderness and unspoilt nature. It's in this exceptional setting that the Ancelle via ferrata takes place, on a cliff at the bottom of the Rouanne valley, amidst alpine meadows and marmots...

I would like to take you on a tour of the 180-meter-high Rouanne via ferrata, which comprises 3 routes of varying levels. These can be linked one after the other to form a large course (from the easiest to the most complicated):

• The first section (yellow) is suitable for children aged 8 and over and beginners. It's a great way to get to grips with the vertical without getting scared. For those who wish to stop, there's an escape route.
• For others, it's possible to continue on the blue section, which is steeper and has a great atmosphere, but is not yet too physical.
• Then, at a fork in the route, you can choose to go to the end of the blue section, or continue on the steeper, more physical red section. This section is also more vertiginous, towering over the Lautaret torrent below by more than 100 meters.
• At the end of these routes, everyone meets up at the summit and enjoys a magnificent view over the valley and the Écrins National Park.

Note: From June to September, the Rouanne via ferrata can only be climbed in the morning, to avoid the sun and its excessive heat.

Program

• Meet at town hall parking lot in Ancelle at the time indicated beforehand.
• Transport by 9-seater car to the via parking lot at the bottom of the Rouanne valley.
• Equipped with harness and helmet, we walk 5 minutes to the start of the via.
• The via ferrata takes around 2 to 3 hours to complete, depending on the route chosen.
• 15 to 30 minutes downhill return walk on footpath to the parking lot.

The price includes

• Supervision by the mountain guide.
• Loan of equipment required for the activity: harness, via ferrata lanyard with energy absorber, helmet, rope, etc.
• Transport from the village of Ancelle to the via ferrata parking lot (5km of forest track).

The price does not include

• Return transport to Ancelle, about 30 minutes' drive north of Gap.
• Snacks.
• Drinks.
• Personal equipment: shoes (sneakers or hiking boots), small backpack with water bottle, etc.
• Anything not mentioned in "The price includes".
