Description
I propose you to discover the amazing via souterrata of La Tune in the Dévoluy massif, in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes department.
Just an hour's drive north of Gap and close to the Superdévoluy ski resort, this underground via ferrata is a timeless experience and an easy introduction to the world of caving. It's a real adventure that will awaken your senses as we visit the quiet, silent chambers.
The via souterrata of La Tune will impress you not only with its special features (stalactites and stalagmites), but also with its route, featuring monkey bridge crossings, abseiling and room visits.
This cave can be visited as a traverse: we enter on one side and exit on the other.
The activity lasts around 3 hours 30 minutes, and can be completed by people who have never done caving before. You need to be at least 10 years old, at least 1.40 meters tall and weigh between 40 and 120kg maximum. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any medical problems.
If you would like to experience other great underground adventures in the region, I also recommend :
- an introduction to caving in the Grotte de la Résurrection in the Buëch valley,

- and, nearby, more sporty caving at the Puits des Bans in Saint-Etienne-en-Dévoluy.
Program
- Departure: Morning or early afternoon, for a 3-hour and a half activity.
- Meeting point: La Tune via souterrata parking lot in Superdévoluy, about one hour drive from Gap.
- 15-minute approach walk to reach the start of the via.
- From 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes underground.
- 15-minute return walk to the parking lot.
The price includes
- Supervision by the caving instructor.
- All the technical equipment you need for the activity: harness and via ferrata lanyards with energy absorber, over-suit, neoprene socks, helmet with light, knee pads and gloves. You will also have suitable bags with watertight containers to carry your clothes and water bottles.
The price does not include
- Return transport to the via souterrata parking lot in Superdévoluy.
- Sneakers or mountain boots (shoes in good condition that fit well).
- Comfortable, soft clothes that can get dirty (tracksuit, leggings and fleece, etc.).
- At least 1 liter of water (plastic bottle) for 2 people.
- Snacks.
- A lanyard if you wear glasses.
- An elastic band to tie back long hair.
- Anything not mentioned in "The price includes".
