Climbing: the Spitzkoepfe ridge (Hohneck, Vosges)
Duration : 1 day
France, Vosges
Level : beginner
from 95 € / p. from 1 to 4 persons
Infos & BookingDescription
Nestled in the Hohneck massif, the Spitzkoepfe ridge is a real invitation to climb.
Frequented since the early 20th century by Austrian and German mountaineers, this route between sky and earth is a perfect introduction to mountain climbing. The route is reasonably challenging, with good-quality granite and numerous vertical ledges several meters high to climb. While most of the difficulties can be bypassed, it would be a shame to miss out on these wonderful moments of fun climbing in a magnificent setting.
Once you have climbed the ridge, it takes just a few minutes to reach the summit of Hohneck at an altitude of 1363 meters (the highest point in the Vosges department) and look out over the Alsace plain to enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, the Black Forest, and even the Alps in good weather.
Personal equipment to bring:
- approach shoes or sneakers,
- a cap, sunglasses, sunscreen (SPF > 50),
- a 35-40 liter backpack,
- sports clothing,
- a water bottle, a picnic, energy bars.
If you are unsure, bring it along and we will sort it out before departure.
If you fancy more vertical adventures in the region, you can also join me for an introduction to multi-pitch climbing in the Vosges or, in winter mode, for a discovery of ice climbing on waterfalls, also in the Vosges.
