Description

Ice climbing is a spectacular activity, but contrary to popular belief, it is accessible to all levels, even beginners. Climbing these magnificent ice structures is a treat for the eyes and the senses. I invite you to discover this wonderful activity together in the Vosges mountains.

This introductory day to ice climbing will give you the opportunity to:

  • Discover the specific equipment used for this activity (crampons, ice axes, ice screws, etc.).
  • Know the specific safety rules for ice climbing.
  • Learn and apply the movements and techniques that will enable you to climb efficiently without exhausting yourself.
  • Practice top rope climbing (for beginners or those with little experience) or lead climbing if you have already practiced several times.

For obvious reasons of temperature constraints, the best time to practice this activity is in winter, during the months of January and February.

We will go to a few sites in the Vosges that offer one-pitch frozen waterfalls, such as Lake Alfeld or, more likely, Lake Blanc. To climb multi-pitch routes, we will head to Hohneck, the highest point in the Vosges department, which offers many itinéraries of reasonable difficulty on its slopes that are perfectly suited for beginners.

If you are looking for other vertical and more summery adventures in the region, you can join me for an introduce yourself to multi-pitch climbing in the Vosges or climb up the Spitzkoepfe ridge in the Hohneck massif.
