Introduction to ski touring in the Vosges

Description

Come with me for a wonderful day of introductory ski touring in the Vosges mountains! This outing is perfect for gently getting started with the activity, both uphill and downhill.

Ski touring is freedom! Go where it is still possible to make your own tracks, where silence reigns, where you can still see chamois. The ski touring ascent is done with skins attached to the skis, at your own pace. It is a time of effort, but not only that: it is also a time for contemplation, a time to enter this privileged environment. A time to feel welcome, and then launch into the ski descent! The long-awaited and dreamed-of descent, the one that will prove to be unique every time.

During this day, I will give you advice on acquiring the right techniques and methods that will make your life easier and reduce your effort on the ascent. I will also help you improve your off-piste skiing technique so you can enjoy it to the fullest.

And for your convenience, I will take care of equipment rental!

This introductory course will also be an opportunity to discover and climb one of the peaks of the Vosges mountains in winter, such as Rainkopf, Ballon d'Alsace, Hohneck, Tête des Corbeaux, Kastelberg, and several others.

Program

• Meet at one of the spots in the mountains at 9am.
• Presentation of the day and ski touring equipment.
• Learn how to use the specific equipment: removable bindings, climbing skins, hiking poles, then the safety kit: avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe.
• Progress on the ascent and first conversions. Choice of route on the slopes.
• Arrival at the summit with panoramic views and a snack break (or a meal at a farmhouse inn if you prefer).
• Preparation of skis for the descent.
• Descent, trying to find the best snow quality for maximum enjoyment!
