Description

I invite you to join me for a wonderful day of winter mountaineering, exploring the snow-covered couloirs and ridges on the north face of Hohneck.

This will be an opportunity for you to discover the joys of snow and ice climbing on the highest mountain in the Vosges department, which rises to an altitude of 1,363 meters.

During this day, you will learn the techniques and use of crampons and ice axes, all in a superb glacial cirque around the Vosges ridges.

There are many moderately difficult routes (rated somewhat difficult to somewhat difficult +) available: the Martinswand, Falimont, Y, Dagobert, Schaeferthal, and Wormspel couloirs, among many others. Generally 150 meters high or more, they usually start off steep (up to 45 degrees) before transitioning into longer, less steep sections. It is even possible to climb several together, depending on the speed of the rope teams.

If you are interested in other winter experiences in the region, you can join me for an introduction to ice climbing in the Vosges  or an introduction to ski touring in the Vosges department. When there is less snow, we can also climb together along the Spitzkoefe ridge on the Hohneck, practicing rock mountaineering.
