Description

I suggest you go for 3 days of adventure in the heart of the Swiss Jura, a true green paradise that looks like Lapland.

Very close to the French village of Les Rousses, the Swiss Jura offers us its large spaces shaped over the centuries by human activity.

Highlights of this trek

  • Breathtaking panoramas from peaks like Mont Tendre, the highest point in the Swiss Jura
  • Authentic refuges (sometimes unguarded depending on the season) where a mountain atmosphere reigns.
  • A magnificent high-altitude route that winds through the gigantic valleys beneath the highest peaks of the Swiss Jura.

Note: the two shelters are guarded on certain weekends but do not offer catering. This raid therefore takes place semi-autonomously with food carried.
Stages 2 and 3 are 14 and 15 kilometers long and are aimed at sporty people.

Program

Day 1: Les Chaumilles - Mont Tendre - Cunay hut.
Meet at 9am at Bois d’Amont, near the Tourist Office, before heading towards the Col du Marchairuz in Switzerland, a 20-minute drive away. Briefing and equipment check before starting our raid.
The feeling of freedom is immediate and we cross immense pastures separated by the famous stone walls.
Objective of the day is the ascent of Mont Tendre, the highest point of the Swiss Jura at 1,679 meters above sea level. From up there, a breathtaking view is offered to us, extending over the Alps and the entire Jura chain.
We then continue our journey towards the Cunay hut, an isolated refuge nestled in the heart of the mountains. Its location in front of the Alps and its atmosphere make it an ideal haven of peace.
Accommodation at the Cunay hut (free management), picnic at lunchtime.
Elevation gain: 450 meters, elevation loss: 200 meters, distance: 11 km.

Day 2: Cunay hut - Marchairuz pass - Pralets hut.
After a good night's sleep, the longest day awaits us. We begin our route with a gradual descent to the Col du Marchairuz (1,447m), before diving into the Combe des Amburnex, a true geological masterpiece. It is one of the longest and majestic valleys in the Jura, alternating between open landscapes and areas shaded by majestic spruce trees.
We reach the Neuve mountain pasture before descending to the Pralets hut, an authentic Jura mountain pasture chalet. A friendly atmosphere awaits us there, ideal for enjoying a good meal together!
Picnic at lunchtime.
Self-catering accommodation at the Pralets hut.
Elevation gain: 150 meters, elevation loss: 450 meters, distance: 15 km.

Day 3: Pralets hut - Mont Sâla - Amburnex valley - Les Chaumilles.
For this last day, we head for the Combe des Bégnines at almost 1,500 meters above sea level. It is a perched syncline, a vast grazing area in summer which takes on the appearance of the far north come winter. The path is pleasant until you reach the view of Geneva and the chalet in Roch, an area of alpine chalets. Last picnic in the great outdoors. La Sèche des Amburnex awaits us before a very short climb back to our starting point.
Elevation gain: 400 meters, elevation loss: 300 meters, distance: 14 km.
