Description

I would like to take you on a tour of the Roche Veyrand via ferrata above Saint-Pierre d'Entremont in the Chartreuse massif. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful via ferrata in the region, and even in the Alps, as it follows a wall route worthy of a multi pitch climbing route: the route is very vertiginous and the cliff is very steep in places.

From the top of the via ferrata at an altitude of 1300 meters, it takes around 20 minutes to reach the summit of Roche Veyrand at 1429 meters. From here, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of a large part of the Chartreuse massif: Cirque de Saint-Même, Dent de Crolles, Chamechaude, sommet du Pinet, Granier, Dent de l'Ours, etc.

The route is divided into 2 parts: a first part rated fairly difficult to familiarize you with the equipment and get to grips with the void, and a second part rated very difficult to experience the thrill of climbing a beautiful Alpine wall. At 800 meters long, this itinerary is reserved for sporty people with no fear of heights.

The first part of the via ferrata is gentle. It's a succession of small vertical walls with a few short, sustained passages interspersed with traverses. You will cross a beautiful dihedral, a bridge and a 17-meter footbridge.

The second part is even more vertiginous. After the 30-meter "Pas de la Frousse" footbridge, a vertical climb leads to a ledge, which you follow. Passing a cave and rounding a pillar, the atmosphere becomes very vertiginous. The rest of the via ferrata concentrates its main difficulties, with 2 slightly overhanging passages of a few meters before an easier end.
