Mountaineering: Crossing the Meije (Écrins)

Description

I invite you to join me on the legendary Meije traverse, a classic route that is a must for all mountaineers.

This great mountaineering route offers the opportunity to climb the Grand Pic de la Meije (3,983 meters above sea level) via the Promontoire ridge, then traverse the ridges to the Doigt de Dieu (3,973 m) alternating between rock climbing, mixed sections, and aerial ridges.

In short, you will experience three days of adventure, including an intense day combining mountaineering and climbing, punctuated by breathtaking panoramas!

To help you prepare for this magnificent climb or to experience other wonderful adventures, I also offer:

• the ascent of Mont Blanc in Haute-Savoie,
• the traverse of the Pelvoux in the Écrins massif,
• and other mountaineering routes in the Pyrenees or the Alps.

Program

Day 1: Ascent to the Promontoire hut.
Departure from La Grave with the first cable cars, then ascent of the Enfetchores ridge (level 3/4 walking and climbing) to the Meije glacier. Cross the glacier and climb to the Brèche de la Meije (3,357 m), then descend to the Promontoire hut (3,092 m) via downclimbing and a short abseil.

Day 2: Ascent of the Grand Pic de la Meije (3,983 m) and traverse of the ridges to the Doigt de Dieu (3,973 m).
Night departure from the refuge.
Climb the Castelnau wall with its historic passages ("dalle Castelnau,", "dos d'âne,", "pas du chat"), ascend the Carré glacier and final climb on the west ridge to the summit of the Grand Pic.
Well-deserved break to enjoy the incredible view from the summit over the Écrins, Vanoise and Mont-Blanc massifs.
Descent of the Grand Pic by downclimbing and abseiling, followed by the Zsigmondy ridge and its famous cables. We continue with a mixed route on the ridges, with climbing and short abseils to the Doigt de Dieu.
We end this beautiful day of mountaineering with a spectacular descent on the Tabuchet glacier and arrival at the Aigle hut where a well-deserved aperitif awaits us!

Day 3: Descent to the Pont des Brebis.
After breakfast at the Aigle hut, we put our crampons on again to descend the Tabuchet glacier along the Bec de l'Homme ridge. We then take the Amieux ledge (cable) before joining the main trail at around 2,500 meters, which leads us to Pont des Brebis.

The price includes

• Supervision by the mountain guide.
• Provision of group equipment (rope, etc.).

The price does not include

• Return transport to La Grave, a 40-minute drive from Briançon and an hour and a half from Grenoble.
• Personal equipment, namely: helmet, crampons, mountaineering boots, ice axe and harness.
• Civil liability and personal accident insurance for mountaineering and related activities (if you are not already covered for these activities by your insurance, you can take out additional insurance with the FFME, FFCAM, etc.).
• Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner).
• Drinks.
• Half-board accommodation for you and the guide.
• Anything not mentioned in "The price includes".
