Infos & BookingDescription
During this 4 days and 3 nights tour, I propose you to go around the Lauzière massif in Savoie. Located between the valleys of Maurienne and Tarentaise, this massif with its wild character is not much covered and has only few guarded refuges. It is therefore an atypical route, wild, far from the famous and frequented "hiking highways".
All along the route, you will have the opportunity to enjoy superb panoramas on the surrounding massifs, such as the Chartreuse, the Mont-Blanc, the Vanoise, etc. And since you will go around it, you will be able to admire the highest point of the massif, the Grand Pic de la Lauzière (2,829 meters), from all its sides.
The first two nights are spent in unguarded huts, but with the help of a second mountain leader who will bring the meals.
I also propose other outings over several days to disconnect and enjoy the mountains, like this hiking, yoga and nature course in Savoie, this Vanoise tour or this hiking and writting weekend in Oisans.
Program
Departure and arrival are in La Chambre in the Maurienne valley, about 45 minutes' drive from Albertville or Chambéry.
Day 1: Madeleine pass - Arbesserie hut.
Meet at the La Chambre dairy cooperative parking lot at 10am, then 45-minute transfer to Madeleine pass.
For this first stage, we start with a nice climb to the north towards the Sarvatan pass at 2,439 meters of altitude. The following descent and traverse bring us to the Arbesserie hut, which dominates the Maurienne valley, our hut for the night.
Approximately 4.5 hours of walking, elevation gain: 500 meters, elevation loss: 700 meters.
Day 2: Arbesserie hut - Vénitier hut.
The day's itinerary proposes a beautiful and long traverse in the western slopes of the Lauzière massif until the Vénitier hut where we spend the night.
Approximately 5.5 hours of walking, elevation gain: 700 meters, elevation loss: 800 meters.
Day 3: Vénitier hut - Logis des Fées hut.
Today we cross a high pass to switch to the other side of the Lauzière massif. The panoramas on the mountains of Vanoise, Chartreuse, Mont-Blanc, etc. are magnificent. The descent leads us to the Logis des Fées hut which overlooks the village of Celliers.
Approximately 5 hours of walking, elevation gain: 700 meters, elevation loss: 650 meters.
Day 4: Logis des Fées hut - Madeleine pass.
For this last stage we take a nice balcony trail that winds along the eastern side of the Lauzière, until we find our starting point.
Approximately 7 hours of walking, elevation gain: 1,100 meters, elevation loss: 1050 meters.
The stages are between 600 and 800 meters of positive altitude difference, with some vertiginous passages.
