Description

I invite you to follow me on this unique and vertiginous via ferrata, located under the Napoléon bridge in Luz-Saint-Sauveur in the Hautes-Pyrénées department. In this historic environment surrounded by beautiful limestone cliffs, you will climb above the Gave de Pau river for your enjoyment. Indeed, the bridge was built between 1859 and 1863 at the request of Napoleon III. During the climb, you will be able to appreciate its architecture in all its facets.

After a quick downhill approach walk to the river, you start the via ferrata with a vertical wall followed by a ledge and a slightly overhanging traverse to the right that brings you closer to the bridge. A second traverse and then another vertical passage take you to the bridge pier. The passages are quite technical and require careful thought, especially when it comes to placing your feet. This is what makes this via ferrata so interesting. The route continues with a traverse on a beautiful vertical rock, followed by a relatively exposed section and a ledge. You will then arrive at the trail, where the last two impressive obstacles await you: a beautiful 100-meter-long zip line and a Nepalese bridge over the river. From there, it's an easy walk back to the parking lot in just a few minutes.

Vertiginous and athletic, this via ferrata on the Napoleon Bridge is definitely worth the detour and can be a great first experience of the activity if you are feeling a little unsure of yourself.

The via ferrata is accessible to children over 1.40 m tall.

The normal price is 35€ per person. Groups of 6 or more people are charged 31€ per person.

If you fancy another vertical route in the region, you can follow me on the nearby "Chaos de Coumély" via ferrata between Gèdre and Gavarnie.
