Hiking and cow milking at the farm (Maurienne)

Description

I would like to take you on a gourmet tour in the village of Albiez-Montrond in the Maurienne valley, on the Savoie cheese route, with a visit to the milking farm and a trial of milking a cow by hand.

This hike is an opportunity to discover the entire history of mountain agriculture up to the Beaufort AOC, as well as the Beaufort AOP, from milking the cows to making Beaufort and the two consecutive gold medals won in 2022 and 2023 at the "Concours Général Agricole" at the Paris "Salon de l'Agriculture".

This hike is an opportunity to discover the history of mountain farming, from the Beaufort AOC to the Beaufort PDO, from milking Tarine and Abondance cows to Beaufort production and the two consecutive gold medals won in 2022 and 2023 at the "Concours Général Agricole" (General Agricultural Contest) of the Paris "Salon de l'Agriculture" (Agricultural Show).

I will explain the different types of Beaufort cheese, the particularities of their manufacture and the history of this ancestral tradition from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages, as well as its evolution to the present day.

At the farm, the farmer will tell us about his daily work, herd management and life through the seasons. You can even try milking a cow by hand with the farmer, and you will soon understand why there's now a milking machine.

I also offer gourmet outings during the summer around Albiez-Montrond:

• a summer discovery of the heritage and production of Beaufort cheese in Maurienne (also available the rest of the year),
• a gourmet walk in the Albiez mountain pastures and
• a fondue hike in the Maurienne valley.

Program

• Meet every Wednesday at 5.30pm, Place de la Chapelle du Mollard in the village of Albiez-Montrond (73300), about an hour's drive from Chambéry or Albertville.
• Depending on the season, bring winter footwear.
• Discovery of the village and the reasons for its geographical location.
• Walk to the farm and hear stories along the way.
• Around 6pm: Arrive at the farm and meet the farmer. Tasting of milk and Beaufort.
• Around 7pm: Leave the farm and return to the meeting point.

The price includes

• Supervision by the mountain guide, Savoie Mont Blanc heritage guide and referent for the Savoie cheese route.
• Milking and Beaufort tasting.

The price does not include

• Return transport to the meeting point in the village of Albiez-Montrond.
• Your hiking gear, including warm clothing from head to toe.
• Snacks.
• Drinks.
• Anything not mentioned in "The price includes".
