Trekking: the Néouvielle Reserve (Hautes-Pyrénées)
Duration : 6 days
France, Pyrenees
Level : sporty
from 625 € / p. from 4 to 8 persons
Infos & BookingDescription
Looking for a great week's hiking? Why not let yourself be surprised by the Néouvielle National Conservation Area, a must-see in the Aure valley?
And let's face it, Néouvielle is a very busy place in summer. On this trek, I'd like you to enjoy the magnificence of the Pyrenean landscapes while staying away from the crowds and the main trails. Of course, this requires extra effort and reduced comfort.
Prerequisites: this trek requires you to be sporty. The days are not so long, but the backpacks are a little heavy as we are self-sufficient for part of the trekking. You should expect to walk an average of 6 to 7 hours a day. At times, we'll encounter fairly technical mountain terrain and, above all, little comfort in our tents at night. But in return, we'll have a feeling of communion with the mountains.
The highlights of this trekking:
- Exclusive, off-the-beaten-path itineraries to explore wild landscapes in complete tranquility.
- A total immersion in nature: You enjoy a pristine setting, far from the tourist crowds.
- A sporting and personal challenge: This trip demands extra effort, perfect for those looking to push their limits.
If you're interested in other treks in the Pyrenees, you can follow me on a 3-day trekking to climb the Pic des Posets or the Añisclo canyon trekking tour.
I also offer training courses for self-sufficiency, such as this preparation for trekking in the Aure valley or an introduction to bivouacking in the Pyrenees.
Program
Day 1: Arrival in Guchen.
In Guchen, in your family home, you settle in for the night and a good dinner.
I'll take this opportunity to present our week, get to know the rest of the group and organize our backpacks.
Day 2: Col d'Aulon and Lac de Campana.
Early departure by minibus shuttle for the village of Aulon and the Lurgues barns (1,409m) where our trek begins.
We start with an ascent to the cabane d'Auloueilh (1,860m) and its courtaous before continuing to the col d'Aulon (2506m). We then descend in a very mountainous area to Lac de Campana (2,220m). This will be our tented overnight stop.
Elevation gain: 900 meters, 6 to 7 hours of walking.
Day 3: Hiking in wild valleys.
After a good night's sleep on your air mattress, we prepare breakfast in the rising sun.
Once we've packed up camp, we set off again to climb the hourquette de Caderolles (2,480m) before descending to the abri de Port-Bielh (2,105m) and then up the magnificent Gourget and Estibere valleys before reaching an unnamed pass at 2,500 meters. A final descent takes us to our second night's bivouac on the shores of Lac d'Aubert (2,150m).
Elevation gain: 700 meters, 5 to 6 hours of walking.
Day 4: Off-trail hiking.
We take advantage of a nearby road to leave some of our belongings with a member of the Pyrénées trekking team and to pick up some supplies. With our backpakcs lighter, we set off again in the direction of the Col de Madamete (2,508m) and the Col de Tracens (2,463m). We descend to Lac Nère (2,220m) before climbing back up to Col de la Mourèle (2,515m) and finally reaching the refuge de la Glère (2,160m) for dinner and a night in bed!
Elevation gain: 800 meters, 5 to 6 hours of walking.
Day 5: Last day of hiking.
Departure from the hut for our last day of hiking. Today's ascent takes us to the Col de Rabiet (2,509m), before descending to the Lac de Bugarette (2,281m) and climbing to the hourquette of the same name at 2,614 meters. We then reach the magnificent Cap de Long dam (2,170m) to complete this beautiful loop.
A minibus picks us up and takes us back to the family home in Guchen.
Elevation gain: 800 meters, 5 to 6 hours of walking.
Day 6: end of stay and departure.
