Description

I would like to invite you to discover the alpine pastures and heritage of the Maurienne valley, in the south of the Savoie department.

During this outing, you wi'll immerse yourself in the life and heritage of Albiez, a magnificent mountain village that has managed to preserve its authenticity.

Then we will head off for a walk in the mountain pastures, to understand part of the life of the producers of the milk used to make Beaufort cheese. This outing is organized in conjunction with the Savoie Cheese Route and the Vallée des Arves dairy cooperative.

After visiting places that have marked the history of the village of Le Plan, the main town of Albiez, we will take your vehicle up to the mountain pastures to share the life of a mountain farmer at milking time, harvesting the fruit of his labor.

A short 15-minute walk and lots of explanations about the life of men and women in the mountains during the summer season.

I will then introduce you to Savoy PDO and PGI cheeses, different types of Beaufort, the particularities of their manufacture, and the history of this ancestral tradition and its evolution to the present day.

I will also introduce you to the landscape and the various mountain ranges that surround us: Vanoise, Belledonne, Grandes Rousses, Aiguilles d'Arves and the names of the main peaks.

At 2000 meters altitude, at the foot of the majestic Aiguilles d'Arves, the mountain pasture comes alive in the late afternoon. The cows are grouped together and we watch them being milked in the presence of the farmers, who are passionate about their work.

During the visit, you will taste the warm milk from milking and the Beaufort cheese made by the Arves Valley dairy cooperative, and you will be able to try out milking a cow.

For those with a sweet tooth, I also offer summertime fondue hikes in the Maurienne valley's alpine pastures, as well as winter and summer farm visits to watch cows being milked and taste Beaufort.
