Infos & BookingDescription
I invite you to join me on an exciting vertical adventure on the Rochers de la Clapière via ferrata, which overlooks the village and valley of Ceillac in the heart of the Queyras massif.
Ideal for beginners, children, people who want to discover vertical climbing without getting scared, and outings with family or friends, this route has two sections that can be completed consecutively or not. Located on a south-facing limestone cliff, it is best to climb the via ferrata early in the morning in the height of summer, or later in the day when it is cooler. As you climb, the view of the Hautes-Alpes and Queyras mountains opens up, allowing you to enjoy the magnificent environment.
After the equipment has been distributed, a short 10-minute walk will take you to the start of the via ferrata, where I will give you a briefing on safety and how to use the equipment. Then it will be time to set off on the first part of the Rochers de la Clapière via ferrata. This section is easy and therefore accessible to most people. It starts with a fairly vertical 50-meter wall and then continues to climb more easily up the rock until you reach the fork between the second section on the left and the escape route on the right. This one follows an easy ridge before joining a trail that leads back to the parking lot.
The second, more challenging section crosses to the left, climbing along a ramp and then following a more horizontal ledge until it reaches a 20-meter-long footbridge. The route then climbs straight up the cliff for about 100 meters before branching off to the left for an ascending traverse with vertical and even slightly overhanging passages, in a more vertiginous atmosphere. The final section is easier, climbing up a sloping slab to the top of the via. From there, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Ceillac valley and the peaks that tower above it. It is then time to descend back to the parking lot via a path that is sometimes a little steep.
If you're interested in other similar routes in the Queyras massif, you can follow me on the Arvieux via ferrata: Pra-Premier and the Crêtes de Combe la Roche.
