Infos & BookingDescription
Multi-pitch climbing courses are designed for those who want to become independent on multi-pitch routes.
The Gorges du Tarn and Gorges de la Jonte are among the most beautiful cliffs in France and are particularly suitable for learning multi-pitch climbing techniques.
You will learn how to adapt your lead climbing to multi-pitch situations (rope management), how to set up belays efficiently, how to manage rappelling, and how to master all the techniques that may be useful when climbing a multi-pitch route.
Here are the topics we will cover during this training:
- Use of multi-pitch equipment.
- Setting up belays with different tools and equipment.
- Developing specific techniques and strategies.
- Belaying and fall training with double ropes.
- Managing and storing double ropes in "suspended" belays.
- Abseiling.
- "Escape" techniques and managing hazards.
- Rescue and self-rescue techniques.
- Ascent of one or more multi-pitch routes.
The Tarn and Jonte Gorges offer numerous routes, even at modest levels. The Jonte is unique in that it has exceptionally high-quality compact rock with plenty of holds, even at levels 4+ and 5.
Program
The course lasts 2, 3, or 4 days:
- D1: Learning multi-pitch climbing techniques.
On the first day, you will learn the essential multi-pitch techniques.
We will use training anchors (close to the ground) to learn or review how to set up belays in different situations and with different equipment.
We will climb two or three pitches to put the techniques discussed into practice.
Abseiling and belaying with double ropes will also be part of the program. - D2: Climbing a multi-pitch route.
The second day will focus on climbing a multi-pitch route of about 100 meters and of a modest level in order to check that all the points covered the previous day have been understood by the participants.
We will also be able to refine the details and tackle new situations, which we will take the time to analyze together.
Depending on the participants' wishes, it will be possible to dedicate the end of the day to climbing another multi-pitch route or reviewing the techniques practiced earlier. - D3: Working on autonomy.
You will be placed in a situation requiring autonomy on a more ambitious route, and the theme of the day will be to assess your ability to make good decisions and keep the rope team safe.
We will take the time to correct any mistakes and deepen the techniques seen during the first two days in order to increase efficiency. - D4: Managing exceptional situations.
This day can take many forms but is generally dedicated to completing a multi-pitch route and learning rescue and self-rescue techniques.
In other words, we will study "exceptional" situations and how to get out of a bad situation (loss of equipment, stuck rope, accident, etc.). Although optional, this day allows you to gain confidence and ensure real autonomy.
