Infos & BookingDescription
How about hiring a guide to take you on a multi-pitch climbing route of your dreams in the Montpellier area?
Multi-pitch routes are suitable for indoor or outdoor climbers, beginners or experienced, who want to enjoy an unforgettable day tailored to their level, on a wonderful vertical adventure.
A multi-pitch route is a climbing route with several pitches that can be completed in half a day or a full day. There are routes for beginners as well as experts.
The area around Pic Saint-Loup and the Gorges de l'Hérault has many cliffs that are perfectly suited to multi-pitch climbing. Magnificent limestone cliffs overlooking the Hérault river and a profusion of climbing sites are scattered within an hour's drive of Montpellier.
Here are the most classic cliffs around Montpellier:
- Le Thaurac: Well known to Montpellier residents, it offers numerous climbing areas and several multi-pitch routes. It is the perfect massif for beginners to multi-pitch climbing. There are also several long and demanding multi-pitch routes on the large west face.
Here are a few possible routes:- Falaise de la grotte (5a),
- Pilier du secrétaire (5b),
- Grande face ouest (5c minimum).
- Saint-Jean-de-Buège is a magical, isolated village where you always feel privileged to be able to climb. There are multi-pitch routes for beginners starting at 5b for routes over 100 meters high. It is possible to descend via small abseils or, for the more courageous, via a large 55-meter abseil in mid-air.
- Le pilier secret (5b),
- Coup de grisou (6a),
- Les clochards célestes (6b).
- L'Hortus is a wild and impressive cliff facing Pic Saint-Loup. The long routes are 100 to 150 meters high and offer challenging climbing. The atmosphere is magnificent and the view is magical!
- La Bidasse (5c),
- La cagne (6a),
- L'enclume (6a+),
- Le Pendentif (6b).
- Pic Saint-Loup is the iconic mountain near Montpellier. A playground and training ground for mountaineers in the last century, it is still possible to enjoy some great climbing on the quiet and wild north face.
- Le 3ème éperon (5b),
- Les bartasseurs de la Yaute (6b).
- Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert is a magnificent village on the edge of the Hérault gorges. There are many long routes here, particularly on the impressive north face.
- Pilier de gauche and Fraissinet (5c),
- La Préfectorale (6a+),
- L'empire des sens (6b),
- La Carmina (6b+).
And if you fancy long routes in other mountain ranges, I also offer multi-pitch climbing ascents in the Gorges du Tarn and Jonte or in the Caroux mountains.
You can also join me for a climbing course to become more independent around Montpellier and a climbing trip in Languedoc.
