Trekking around the Aiguilles d'Arves

Description

Join me on the trails of the Maurienne valley to discover breathtaking panoramas and, each day, the Aiguilles d’Arves from a different perspective.

This 3-day multi-day hike will take you from chalet to mountain hut in the high mountains, offering a wild and authentic escape at the foot of the Aiguilles d’Arves.

The itinerary is meticulously planned, ensuring that each day reveals unspoiled landscapes, stories, traditions, heritage sites, forests, views of the Aiguilles d’Arves, perched plateaus, panoramic ridges, the Meije massif, wildlife, flora, and more.

The hike begins in the hamlet of Les Chabottes, above the village of Albiez-Montrond, and ends in Entraigues, near La Grave.

Program

Day 1: Albiez-Montrond - Alpine chalet at the foot of the Aiguilles d'Arves.
Departure from the hamlet of Les Chabottes above the village of Albiez-Montrond for a beautiful hike with spectacular panoramic views of the Aiguilles d'Arves throughout the day. We pass alpine chalets clinging to the mountainside, cows, and perhaps deer or chamois. We are welcomed by Patricia and spend the night in a comfortable alpine chalet.
4 to 5 hours of walking, distance: 6 km, elevation gain: 700 meters, elevation loss: 500 meters, maximum altitude: 2,570 meters.

Day 2: Alpine chalet - Pic du Mas de la Grave mountain hut.
We set off for a day of ascents, some flat sections, and descents through the wildest parts of the Aiguilles d’Arves circuit, which towers over us by more than 1,000 meters. I'll tell you the story of the alpine pastures that were once grazed. We cross the border into the Hautes-Alpes department before traversing terrain where we can find fossils, belemnite rostra, and I can give you some information about the geology. We reach the refuge where we can shower and sleep.
7 to 8 hours of walking, distance: 12.3 km, elevation gain: 1,200 meters, elevation loss: 1,400 meters, maximum altitude: 2,878 meters.

Day 3: Pic du Mas de la Grave hut - Entraigues.
Today we admire the Aiguilles d’Arves on the Hautes-Alpes side, not forgetting the exceptional and unforgettable panoramas of the Meije massif. We follow the Gay stream to reach a ridge at the same level as the Emparis plateau. Depending on how we feel this morning, we can shorten the day's hike. Then, the descent overlooking the Romanche valley takes us to the village of Entraigues, where a taxi awaits to take us back to the starting point.
7 to 8 hours of walking, distance: 16.6 km, elevation gain: 900 meters, elevation loss: 1,450 meters, maximum altitude: 2605 meters.

This trek takes place in the high mountains, and its location in southern Savoie means that the weather is often beautiful, but occasionally a weather system may bring a few snowflakes or patches of fog.
I will always look for the best time to depart for the hike, taking the weather into account, to ensure we arrive at our accommodation in time for dinner. However, since we are hikers first and foremost, the hikes will take place regardless of the weather, except in cases of extreme weather that could pose risks to the hike's progress.
We will need to adapt to the vagaries of the weather, as well as the mountain conditions and the abilities of the participants. Ultimately, I retain sole discretion over the itinerary and may modify it for safety reasons.

The price includes

• Supervision by the mountain leader, who is also a Savoie Mont Blanc heritage guide.
• Full board accommodation is provided from the evening of day 1 to midday on day 3 (packed lunches are provided), with sleeping arrangements in a chalet/hut(dormitory).
• Return by taxi from the end of the hike to the starting point in Albiez-Montrond.

• Round-trip transportation to Albiez-Montrond, approximately one hour's drive from Chambéry or Albertville.
