Description

Treat yourself to a three-day weekend away from the crowds and marked trails to enjoy the pleasures of snowshoeing in the Southern Alps, between France and Italy, between Hautes-Alpes and Piedmont.

On the program of this beautiful escapade: very reasonable altitude differences, snow and generous sunshine, vast untouched plateaus where the view goes far, several small passes, frozen lakes and in the evening, the nights in an Italian refuge more than friendly! It's a weekend to discover the mountain in winter, its fauna and its heritage... the" great white" playful and accessible to all!

I also propose, throughout the winter and at the beginning of spring, other snowy escapades, such as this snowshoeing weekend at 3000 meters in the Queyras, a discovery of the Haute Ubaye with snowshoes and a wild snowshoeing stay in Queyras.

Program

Day 1: Climb to Mautino refuge.
Meeting of the group at the station, short transfer of fifteen minutes to Cesanna Torinese. Presentation of the weekend and equipment, then climb by chairlift to Sagna Longa for a picnic at altitude. We then have all the afternoon to reach the shelter through a superb larch. Beautiful winter atmosphere and often wildlife watching! Night, evening and hearty meal at the friendly Italian hut of Mautino.
Elevation gain: 150 meters, elevation loss: 50 meters, 3 hours and a half of walking.

Day 2: The valley of the Fonts de Cervières.
From lakes to passes it's a day on the Franco-Italian border waiting for you. As soon as you leave the forest, you will see the peaks of Piedmont, then once at Bousson Pass, in the Cervières Valley and the Grand Rochebrune, the emblematic summit of the region. The border ridge is hilly and dotted with small lakes, then, once French side, the valley of the Fonts is revealed as a white immensity through which your snowshoes will carry you.
Elevation gain and loss: 350 meters, 5 hours of walking.

Day 3: The top of Fournier and the village of Bousson.
A last small climb on the top of Fournier via the border ridge to enjoy one last time of the view and you will enjoy a beautiful and long fun descent through the forest to the village of Bousson and civilization. It will be an opportunity to take a close look at the winter natural environment much richer than we believe!
Transfer to Oulx TGV station for hot chocolate before the 5.15pm train.
Elevation gain: 200 meters, elevation loss: 600 meters, 4 hours an a half of walking.
