Description

In the heart of the Alpes-de-Hautes-Provence, this hiking trip invites you to discover the Provence from the inside, the one of the lavender producers, the shepherds and the goatherds, the farmers, the cheese makers and the beekeepers.

Each day we go to meet a local craftsman, in order to share a moment of his life through his job which is also his passion. He takes the time to explain his daily life to us and perhaps invites us to participate in his activity.

You will hike in carefully chosen sites around the farm and we will take the time to discover the beautiful nature of the northern Luberon, still very wild and preserved.

And if you want to discover my beautiful region in a different way, I suggest you these hikes on the theme of lavander or these literature hikes in Provence.

Program

D1: Simiane-la-Rotonde.
Meeting at 2pm at the gîte de la Fontaine.
Installation and presentation of the stay.
Visit of the charming perched village of Simiane-la-Rotonde.
2 hours 30 of walking, positive difference in altitude: 225 meters.

D2: Hike around Banon.
From the village of Banon, I propose a bucolic hike through fields and forests. It leads you in the morning to the Jardins de la Tuilerie of Yannick & Sophie, market gardeners in organic farming.
Picnic with the products of the farm, return to the village in the afternoon.
3 hours 30 of walking, D+: 200 meters.

D3: Volx, "l'Oliveraie" eco-museum and Brass'Bastelle brewery.
Hike on the theme of the olive tree, this Mediterranean tree with great symbolism. We walk in a splendid olive grove, and it is the occasion to speak about its history and its resources. We continue with a visit to the olive grove eco-museum and taste some of the best oils of the region.
The afternoon is dedicated to the visit of a craft brewery, where you will also taste some local beers.
From 3 to 4 hours of walking, D+: 350 meters.

D4: Hike around Montsalier.
After a nice walk that makes you discover the abandoned village of Montsalier, Charles and Sarah welcome us in their farm and make us share their job/passion of sheep shepherd and aromatic plants picker and distiller.
From 4 to 5 hours of walking, D+: 400 meters.

D5: Hike around Banon.
The fame of the Banon area is partly due to its goat cheese. It is therefore quite natural that we will visit Brunelle and his goat farm.
Visit of the goat farm and of the complete manufacturing process before a tasty tasting.
Afternoon devoted to the visit of a beekeeper who will give you all the secrets of honey making.
From 3 to 4 hours of walking, D+: 300 meters.

D6: Discovery of the Lure mountain.
The mountain of Lure is a superb citadel which overhangs the valley of the Durance and offers superb panoramas on the Alps and the foothills of Provence.
You will climb to the top and learn about the history of the men who have boldly frequented the mountain: shepherds, charcoal makers, peddlers.
3 hours 30 of walking, D+: 350 meters.
End of the stay and dispersion around 5pm at the lodge.
