Snowshoeing & relaxing weekend in Gap (Hautes-Alpes)

Description

This weekend in the Hautes-Alpes is a blend of snowshoeing and relaxation, including a sauna in a wood-fired barrel. You'll receive a warm, family welcome at the guide's lodge in the hills above Gap: a large, fully restored farmhouse located in a protected area at 900 meters altitude, very close to the Écrins (Champsaur) and Dévoluy mountain ranges. Enjoy a privileged location with 300 days of sunshine a year and a central position.

Dominique, the family's culinary expert, will introduce you to local dishes as well as unusual preparations and farm cheeses from our friends Marie-Ange and Axel. Many of the ingredients are organically grown. You will also enjoy our homemade preserves (various soups, sun-dried tomatoes, antipasti, mushrooms in oil, beets, pumpkin stuffed with black trumpet mushrooms, Savoyard lamb from my father-in-law, wild garlic, pickled herbs, olive oils, jams (dandelion, elderflower, larch blossom, acacia, lilac, violet, etc.), dried fruit and juice from our orchard, and about twenty homemade digestifs and aperitifs).

As for me, I have been a mountain leader for 30 years and know this gentle and unspoiled part of the Hautes-Alpes region very well.

The spirit of the weekend:

• Small groups (12 people maximum): I prioritize a friendly atmosphere.
• A diverse landscape for the hikes: alpine pastures, mountain passes, forests, rivers... I will show you my secret and wild spots far from the touristy resorts.
• Accessible by train (we will pick you up at Gap train station).
• A level of difficulty adapted to the group.
• Relax in our Finnish-style hot tubs and barrel sauna, both heated by a wood fire and supplied with spring water.
• Enjoy the comfort of a 3-star lodge (rooms for 2 or 3 people), including a room for couples.
• Savor delicious and hearty home-style meals, with drinks (wines, aperitifs, digestifs, coffee) included.
• Experience the warmth of a large, vaulted 65m² room with a 2-ton wood-burning stove.
• Transportation to the trailheads in our minibus.
• Equipment (snowshoes, etc.) is available for rent.

If you have more time, I also propose a snowshoeing and relaxation stay in Gap and a summer discovery of the Hautes-Alpes during 5 days of hiking and relaxation, still in Gap.

Program

• Two entire days of snowshoe hikes.
  Destinations: Champsaur, Dévoluy, Gapençais... sunny ridges, wild valleys, large snow-covered dales, peaks and deep forests are waiting for you to offer a great diversity of landscapes.
• Sauna on Saturday evening: You will enjoy a moment of relaxation and warmth, on the edge of the forest, under the starry sky and with a view of the mountains.

The price includes

• Supervision by the mountain leader.
• Full board accomodation.
• Bed sheets.
• Drinks.
• Generally speaking, everything except the rental of equipment.
• Early booking discount (excluding equipment and transport):
  • -5% more than 3 months before arrival.
  • -3% more than 2 months before arrival.

The price does not include

• Round-trip transportation to Gap.
• Transfers to the trailheads (with your car or my 9-seater van).
• Equipment loan (avalanche beacon + shovel + probe + snowshoes + poles): 36€ for everything or 20€ for safety equipment only.
• Tourist tax (1.65€ / night / adult).
• Optional cancellation and repatriation insurance (5% of the price of the stay).
• Anything not mentioned in "The price includes".

Accommodation

• Lodging in a 18^th century restored farmhouse, in a green mountain area.
• Terraced house near the owner's house with large vaulted living room of 60m².
