Ski touring on Toubkal (High Atlas)

Description

I would like to suggest an apypical ski touring destination, which remains as beautiful as ever! It is always impressive to ski facing the desert, to be on skis in the morning and then sitting on a terrace in a T-shirt.

This trip to Morocco will also be an opportunity to ski couloirs, in addition to climbing Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4167 meters. There is indeed a beautiful north face located in a valley near the village of Imlil, which will bring you all the sensations of moderately steep slopes ski! With the advantages of this destination: no or very few other skiers in the same area, a snow often well stabilized by the variations of temperature, and a porterage in donkey (the top!) which makes it possible to go up to reach the snow in sport shoes when it is a little further than the place of accommodation!

This trip will also be an opportunity to (re) discover the Moroccan charm, the endless mint tea, pastries, souks, oranges, etc.

Program

D1: Arrival in Marakech and transfer to Imlil.
Welcome to Marrakech, then short tour in town before driving to reach the small village of Imlil by private taxi.
First glimpse of the landscapes and the environment of the valley.
Arrival at the lodge, homestay accommodation.

D2: Climb to Toubkal hut.
Departure for the refuge of Toubkal, on skis or foot with the donkeys (which carry the material, nicely!)
4 hours walk to reach this building located at the foot of the mountains, at 3200 meters above sea level.
Once there, our Moroccan friends will make you love their cooking!

D3: Ascent of the Toubkal.
Climb of Atlas highest mountain, then descent into the valley, and transfer by taxi or on foot to the next cottage, located in  Tachdirt Valley.
Positive altitude difference: 1200 meters (800+400), negative altitude difference: 2000 meters.

D4 to D6: Couloir skiing.
Change of scenery! Every day we will climb an attractive line, crampons to the feet, before going down and taste the pleasures of sliding! At the end of the descent, we can enjoy the meals prepared with delicacy by the accompanying team before reaching the cottage.
D+ and D- (average): 1600m.

D7: Return to Marrakech and return flight.

The price includes

• Supervision by the french mountain guide  who knows the country very well.
• Loan of safety equipment (avalanche beacon, showel, probe).

The price does not include

• Return flight to Marrakech.
• The local agency for managing all organisation on-site.
• Meals of D1 and D7 depending on the flights schedules.
