The aim of this 6-day course is to teach you mountaineering!

You will thus progress from the first steps on rock and ice until the high mountain mixed routes (rock and ice / snow mixed) of a difficulty around the rock climbing 3rd degree.

This course will take you, in one week, to a technical level sufficient to achieve, with a mountain guide, routes such as the normal routes of Mont Blanc, Barre des Écrins, Jungfrau, etc.

Go for 6 days in the Italian side of the Mont Blanc massif to discover outingd and corners a little less crowded and known than those of the French side of the massif.

Program

Evening before the D1: Appointment at 6pm at the car park of the Val Veni cable car in Entreves, hamlet of Courmayeur in Italy. Check of the personal equipment of each participant, rental if necessary.
Free stay in the valley. For those who wish, you can book the half-board stay at Monte Bianco refuge, a refuge located in Val Veni and accessible by car.

D1: Meet at 8am. Transfer to the Morgex climbing cliff, municipality located 6km from Courmayeur in the direction of Aosta. Nodes and security bases learning, bases of rock climbing (ascent and descent), of top roping, progression on multi pitch routes, abseil, etc.
End of the day around 4.30 / 5pm. Free stay in the valley

D2: Meet at 8am at the car park of the Val Veni cable car in Entreves. Transfer to Val Ferret and 45 minutes walk to reach the Elena bolted cliffs. Climb of multi pitch routes with various difficulties going up to the 4th degree.
End of the day around 4 / 4.30pm. Free stay.

D3: Meet at 8am at the car park of the Val Veni cable car in Entreves. Ascent to Pointe Helbronner (3452m) with the SkyWay cable car. Lugage drop off of at the Torino refuge (3375m). Then walk on the glacier of the Giant and learning of techniques of progression with the crampons, progression roped on a glacier, emergency rescue in crevasse, etc.
End of the day around 4 / 4.30pm. Half board stay at Torino hut.

D4: Meet at 8.30am at the Torino hut. Ascent of the Aiguille de Toule (3538m). Depending on the weather and the mountain conditions, we will choose the route that can be either a slope snow / ice or the normal mixed route. Then we will continue the safety training with crevasse rescue, climbing techniques on steep slopes, etc.
End of the day around 3.30 / 4pm. Half board stay at Torino hut.

D5: Meet at 8.30am at the Torino hut. Ascent of the Aiguille d'Entreves (3604m). Depending on the weather and the mountain conditions, we will choose the route that can be either the crossing or the normal route back and forth. The two routes alternate parts in mixed and other in pure rock. The difficulty varies according to the route: the crossing has passages of 3sup / 4 in rock. The maximum normal route is only 3. We will tackle the tighted rope progression and climbing lengths on ridges, both up and down. Then we will continue the training which will be a little more theoretical on the risk management according to the choice of the outing.
End of the day around 3.30 / 4pm. Half board stay at Torino hut.

D6: Meet at 8.30am at the Torino hut. Ascent of the Marbled Aiguille (3536m). Depending on weather and the mountain conditions, we will choose the route that can be the crossing or the normal way back and forth. The two routes are rather mixed and travel more or less marked ridges. The maximum rock difficulty is 3. Here we will tackle especially the progression with tighted rope and with short piches on edge.
End of the day around 3pm. Back down the cable car and end of the course.

  • Equipment for rock climbing on high mountains
  • Roping and safety knots for mountaineering
  • Rock climbing techniques for ascent and descent (steep rock wall, slab, etc.)
  • Progression on rock (belaying techniques, handling of the rope, roping, progression on multi pitch routes, abseils, etc.)
  • Progression with crampons on slope up to 45°
  • Progression by climbing pitches on snow / ice slope, safety systems
  • Tighted rope progression on a slope of snow / ice, security system
  • Progression on a glacier (rope tighted, short rope, with intermediate knots)
  • Progression on high mountain rock on difficulties up to degree 2 or 3 with boots and possibly crampons
  • Progression by climbing pitches on rock / mixed in high mountainsSecurity system
  • Tighted rope progression on rock / mixed, security system
  • Choice of the necessary equipment to carry out during mountaineering outings.
  • Choice of the route according to the weather conditions and the mountain (risk management)

All these themes will be treated during the mountaineering races planned in the program.
