Climbing and archaeological trek in Peñas
from 122 € / p. from 1 to 8 personsInfos & Booking
Peñas is a wonderful little village in the Bolivian Altiplano, located 1h30 drive from La Paz and close to Lake Titicaca. It enjoys a magnificent view of the glaciers of the Royal Andes Mountain Range.
For 10 years now, it has been possible to practice climbing on the numerous red sandstone cliffs scattered around. Because of its special position, it is a mystical place for the Chiripa and Aymara cultures, who left many archaeological remains in the surrounding hills (4300m high...).
Meals and accommodation in local homes and a visit to a local handicraft workshop complete an unforgettable experience, both sporting and adventurous as well as human.
D1: Archaeological hike.
A 4-hour walk with a 300-metre difference in altitude around Peñas to visit rock paintings of the Chiripa culture and colonial ruins. On the way back, visit of the handicraft workshop and typical meal in the village.
D2: multi pitch climbing routes in Peñas.
You climb all day long on the superb Placa del Aguila, 120 meters high. It's a good introduction to multi pitch routes because the relays are comfortable, the atmosphere is sunny and the descent is easy in abseiling.
