Description

The mythical Saint-Julien rock, about 100 meters high and overlooking the village of Buis-les-Baronnies, offers many climbing routes on its south face and has four via ferrata on its north face.

I propose you here the combination of two of them, the "Testouriasso" and the "Roumpo Quieu", the "obstinate" and the "pain in the ass" in Provence language. This 1000 meters long and playful course includes Nepalese bridges, cable bridges, passages on beam and footbridges. You will reach the summit cross of the Saint-Julien rock, from where you will discover a 360 degrees view on the grandiose Mont Ventoux and the cliffs of the Baronnies.

The "Testouriasso" starts with a diagonal traverse to the left to reach a first flat. It continues along the wall, with some athletic passages, and then almost reaches the ridge to offer a panoramic view. A new traverse more and more vertiginous, a big wall to climb, a slab and a traverse lead to the first cable bridge, long and impressive. After this one, a mini wooden beam precedes the ascent of a pillar and a very vertiginous passage to the second cable bridge. The via continues downhill until it crosses the longer and more difficult "Roumpo Quieu" route.

This one starts with a cable bridge and then a long vertical section to climb with some technical steps to reach the summit ridge. A traverse on a beam leads to the large 50-meter long footbridge after which it is possible to climb a very overhanging and physical section. A cable bridge, a large slab, a small beam followed by a mini cable bridge lead back to the ridge. An impressive descent in a kind of dihedral then a vertiginous ledge, another cable bridge and some original passages lead to the summit cross of the Saint-Julien rock. After a well-deserved break, it's time to go back to the parking lot, at first still on the via and then on a path.

This wall is well shaded and fresh, so you can do this outing even in the middle of summer. The minimum height required is 1,55 meter

I also propose an easier course on this Saint-Julien rock: the Tihousso via ferrata.

If you're a rock climber, we can climb together a multi pitch route on the south face of this Saint-Julien rock. Or a little further south, on the famous Sainte-Victoire mountain near Aix-en-Provence.
