Description

I offer an introductory multi-pitch climbing course for climbers with little to no multi-pitch experience, but who have already climbed sport routes, leading routes, and routes of at least 5a grade.

This five-day course will teach you the basic safety techniques for multi-pitch climbing (setting up anchors, belaying the leader and second(s), rope management, approaches, basic equipment, communication within the rope team, etc.). These skills will be taught progressively (on the ground, on sport routes, and on multi-pitch climbs). During the week, participants will complete three easy multi-pitch routes.

These few days will also allow you to discover the legendary Verdon Gorges, world-renowned for its climbing routes and the quality of the rock on which they are established.

This course is open to a maximum of 5 people, but a minimum of 3 is required for it to take place. A telephone interview is required before any internship booking.

If you have less time, you can also join me for a day of multi-pitch climbing in the Verdon (possibly followed by a night on a cliff) and an introduction to multi-pitch climbing in the Verdon Gorges.

Program

Days 1 and 2: One-pitch climbing and basics of multi-pitch climbing.
The first two days will be spent on single-pitch routes. This will allow participants to get acquainted with the limestone and climbing style of the Verdon Gorges and gradually build confidence. They will also be an opportunity to review the fundamentals of single-pitch climbing (belaying on lead and top-rope, lead climbing, top-rope handling, etc.).
Finally, and most importantly (on the ground and then on the rock), we will cover equipment and the basics of multi-pitch climbing: setting up anchors, belaying the leader and second(s) from the rope, rope management, communication, rappelling, etc. This learning will be progressive and interactive, the aim being to develop simple and effective techniques that will be put into practice in the following days.
Here are the possible crag climbing areas for these two days: Quinson, Les Félines, La Dalle du Galétas, Les Hauts Vernis, Col d'Ayen, and others.

Days 3 to 5: Multi-pitch climbing.
These three days will be dedicated to climbing multi-pitch routes adapted to the participants. They will be able to put into practice the techniques learned in the previous days. Participants will take turns leading (according to their level and confidence). The difficulty of the routes will gradually increase. Similarly, the guidance will allow participants to progressively develop their autonomy and confidence. The fun and wonder will not be forgotten, however; the choice of routes will allow participants to discover different facets of the Verdon Gorges and its biodiversity. As examples, here are some possible multi-pitch routes: L'Arête de la Patte de Chèvre, L'Usage du Monde, Imaginarium, Chlorochose, Lou des Garrigues, L'Arête du Belvédère, Les Dalles Grises, etc.
