Description

During this hike which takes place in the heart of Reunion Island, you will cross the primary forest of Bélouve where you will discover the exceptional biodiversity of this tropical rainforest. You will meet the famous Queen of Tamarinds and enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the Salazie cirque.
Finally, you will be amazed once you arrive at the belvedere, with a breathtaking view of the spectacular Trou de Fer chasm, the highest waterfall in France. It is also classified among the highest falls in the world with its 725 meters.

Equipment to provide: sports clothing, hiking (or trail) shoes, rain gear, sun protection, at least 1.5 liters of water per person, snack and lunchtime picnic (sandwich).

Program

Two possible departure location options:

  • Parking at the Bélouve lodge.
    Distance: 9 km, elevation gain and loss: 210 meters.
  • Hell-Bourg.
    Distance: 14 km, elevation gain and loss: 720 meters.

Accommodation

Possibility of sleeping in Hell-Bourg, at the Bélouve lodge or in the Plaine des Palmistes depending on the choice of departure location.
