Ski touring on Etna (Sicily)

Description

I propose you to go for 5 days of ski touring in the Etna Park in Sicily, on one of the most active volcano in Europe. You will enjoy an atypical trip on its slopes, facing the Mediterranean Sea.

This adventure is part of a spirit of responsibility and awareness regarding our travel, which has a direct or indirect impact on our environment. While we love to discover new horizons, the means of transport we use for this purpose are the very ones that are gradually destroying these same spaces through climate change!
So how can we minimize this paradox?
Currently, the train is the best compromise. That's why this project to go skiing in Sicily uses this means of transport. In particular, the night train allows us to "save" travel time and a night in a hotel, and arrive the next day ready to ski!

This trip is the opportunity to taste the incredibile charm of the islands that offer the pleasure of drawing some curves by skiing while watching the Big Blue. Etna is an active volcano, but its ascent under normal conditions doesn't give any safety problem. But it may have a greater activity, marked by lava flows and explosions. The volcano is permanently monitored by vulcanologists who, in case of eruption, may prohibit access to the summit.

During these 5 days of ski touring, you will discover the southern and northern slopes of Mount Etna and its peripheral peaks. As the snow conditions can quickly change in this region, we will look for the best possible ski in the following areas: La Montagnola, Pizi Deneri, North Etna, Rocca Neiri. Our private vehicle allows us to access the starting points easily.

Accommodation is done in a hotel-refuge, except the last night where you will enjoy a hotel with a "wellness" spa equipment to end the trip perfectly.

Program

D1: Journey towards Sicily.
Train departing from Martigny (Switzerland) to Milan. Then night train from Milan to Catania (Sicily).
Electric taxi or public transportation to reach our base camp at the foot of Mount Etna, the Sapienza refuge hotel.
Overnight at the hotel.

D2 tp D4: Discovery of the region and ski touring day.
Again, overnight at the hotel.

D3: Ski touring crossing on the North Slope, looking for other horizons ...
Overnight at the Citelli refuge.

D4: Last day of ski touring.
Descent to the plain in the afternoon.
Overnight at the Hotel Airone, which offers all the comfort to relax and enjoy the days spent.

D5: Return journey.
Transfer to the train station for a new adventure back home.
