Description

I invite you to join me on a wonderful vertical adventure on the Roche du Mont via ferrata in the heart of the Doubs department.

Located above the village of Ornans, also known as Little Venice, in the Loue valley, the Roche du Mont via ferrata is made up of two sections winding around a beautiful south-facing cliff.

The first part is accessible to beginners. After a vertical ladder and a steep section on rock, it mainly consists of a long traverse of several hundred meters with a magnificent panorama on the surrounding environment. With no major difficulties, it is a great way to get your first taste of the activity, as the presence of numerous escape routes means you can feel confident about your adventure. Metal rungs, but also two monkey bridges and a beam embellish this course, which requires you to be at least 1.50 meter tall to reach the bars. All along the fun itinerary, you will enjoy a vertiginous atmosphere and a breathtaking view of the village of Ornans and the Loue river.

At the end of the first part, a slightly physical exit allows you to reach the top of the rocky crag and admire the view on Ornans and its valley before going back down by a hiking path.

It is also possible to continue the adventure in a second part. But be careful: it is a completely different level. Big muscles are required and there is no way out of this very steep route, which should be reserved for the most experienced.

If you want to discover other itinéraries in the region, I recommend its neighbor, the Baumes du Verneau via ferrata in Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne, or, a little further, the "Échelles de la Mort" via ferrata in Charquemont. And for more vertical adventures in the region you can follow me to climb in Baume-des-Dames or descend the Malvaux canyon.
