Description

Opened in October 1999, the Bastille via ferrata in Grenoble is the first urban via ferrata in France. Indeed, the start is just a few minutes' walk from Grenoble city center.

The route is divided into two distinct sections. The start of the first section gets you right into the mood, as the first ladder quickly takes you up a 30-metre rock pillar. This is followed by a beautiful traverse featuring a variety of playful obstacles such as beams, monkey bridge and large Nepalese bridge.

After a ten-minute walk, we reach the start of the second section. This is a more athletic and sustained section, but there are two easier variants that take you right up to the summit and directly into the Bastille fort. After a few overhanging and athletic meters, the route follows a long, ascending traverse to the right, with some rather physical passages. Fortunately, there are a few platforms where you can rest! Finally, a short walk brings you to the last section, which is easier but more original, as it climbs up the Bastille walls to end in a casemate.

Once you've reached the top, you will be able to enjoy an exceptional panorama over the whole of Grenoble, as well as the surrounding Vercors, Taillefer and Belledonne massifs. The descent takes just 20 minutes, either by foot or by cable car, both of which take you back to the starting point.

This program can be adapted to suit your individual needs and fitness levels!

If you are interested in other routes in the region, you can also follow me on the Sautet dam via ferrata in Corps, the Cascade via ferrata at l'Alpe du Grand Serre or the Roche Veyrand via ferrata  in Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont.
