Rocher de Sion via ferrata (Hérault)

Description

In the heart of the Hérault Gorges, not far from Montpellier and just opposite the Grotte des Demoiselles, the Rocher de Sion via ferrata is a great alternative to the neighboring, much better-known Thaurac via ferrata.

Here, we will be making a wild, vertiginous ascent, followed by an abseiling descent to a height of around 60 meters!

This via ferrata offers a beautiful and wild route! Located on the north face, on the Rocher de Sion, part of the Thaurac massif, this itinerary is less traveled than its neighbor, and has retained a wild, more natural feel. This is partly due to the fact that this via cannot be climbed by amateurs without the presence of a professional guide.

Indeed, the descent requires mastery of abseiling techniques. The abseil is almost 60 meters high and ends in a "spider's thread", i.e. "in the air", without touching the wall with your feet or hands.

But don't worry, even if you have never abseiled in your life, I will be able to teach you the necessary techniques, or abseil you down myself. All you have to do is enjoy the view and the atmosphere!

Program

• Meet at the village of Agonès parking lot, half an hour's drive north of Montpellier and 1 kilometer from Saint-Beauzille-de-Putois.
• Approximately 15 minutes' approach walk (easy) to reach the start of the via.
• An hour and a half to 2 hours to climb the via ferrata to the summit and abseil down.
• About 10 minutes' walk back to the parking lot.
• Notes:
  • This activity cannot be done without a guide (abseiling down is mandatory).
  • The route is mainly in the shade and is suitable for hot days.
  • Comfortable clothing and good sneakers are recommended.

The price includes

• Supervision by the climbing instructor.
• Loan of equipment required for the activity (harness, helmet, via ferrata lanyard with energy absorber, belay device, etc.).
