Join me for the magnificent alpine hiking traverse of the Cotagne mountain, in the heart of the Haute-Savoie department.
The Cotagne mountain forms the northern spur of the famous Tournette peak. It consists of a ridgeline featuring two distinct summits, an inviting playground for anyone who loves the mountains.
We will undertake a hike that requires using your hands on certain sections, and where a rope may also be necessary; the route straddles the worlds of hiking and rock climbing. You are far more likely to encounter chamois here than other hikers or mountaineers.
It is also a wonderful way to gain some altitude and visit beautiful spots like the Cotagne refuge, a small, unspoiled gem just above the town of Thônes, and the base of La Tournette, near the closed Rosairy refuge.
This route forms a loop: there is no backtracking (provided everything goes smoothly), making it far more enjoyable than a simple out-and-back hike! It is a rewarding experience from start to finish.
The alpine section involves significant exposure, requiring focus and presence of mind. However, I will be there to share my expertise and skills, helping you overcome any potential mental blocks. Beyond the sheer pleasure of completing the traverse, you will be rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view of the entire Aravis range!

Program
- Meet in Thônes at a time suited to the weather and season.
- Drive to Chamossière, the starting point.
- Follow the route described above.
- Return to the parking lot via a loop.
