In this course, in the Aosta Valley, we will learn, understand and apply the instructions, in ski mountaineering, given by the Guide and check your autonomy in the practice of ski mountaineering on glacier.
The next stage of this course involves learning techniques for roped ski progression on glaciers, progression in mountaineering with crampons, and crevasse rescue pulley systems. All of this will take place in the Mont Blanc massif.
This course immerses us in the high-mountain environment, where combining skiing and mountaineering becomes a priority and an essential element for progressing in the discipline.
The course ends with the ascent, in the Monte Rosa massif, of a first 4,000-meter peak in ski mountaineering: the Breithorn 4165 meters.
Pedagogical content of the course:
- Prove that you have mastered classic uphill ski touring techniques.
- Prove that you have acquired the techniques necessary for classic off-piste skiing progression.
- Learning roped progression techniques for ski mountaineering on glaciers.
- Learning mountaineering techniques on snow/ice using ski mountaineering equipment.
- Learning the basics of crevasse rescue pulley systems
- Introduction to high-mountain risk management.

Program
Day 1: Practice Ski mountaineering technics in Mont Blanc area.
Meet at 8.30am at the place defined together.
In early morning we climb with the Sky Way cable car to Punta Helbronner 3462m and from here starts the practice day in high altitude with ski, crampons on icy and snowy slopes, self rescue in crevasses, etc. Our principal goals are to acquire greater confidence and improve skills in progression ski mountaineering techniques on the glacier with rope, crampons and ice axe
Duration: from 4 to 5 hours of skiing.
Day 2: Off-piste skiing and mountaineering technics application in one of ski area in Upper Aosta Valley.
Meet at 8.30am at the place defined together.
A day of skiing in the Upper Aosta Valley, chosen according to environmental conditions, where you can deepen your skiing techniques, improve them and apply the mountaineering techniques learned the day before.
Finally, we will organise the next day.
Duration: from 4 to 5 hours of skiing.
Day 3: Ascent of Breithorn 4165 meters – via the normal route.
Meet at 6.30am at the place defined together.
1.30 hour by road takes us to the Cervinia village situated at foot south face of Matterhorn. A cable car is used to take us to 3515m and a spectacular glacial environment. From here Ascent of Breithorn 4165 meters. Follow up the glacier to the Klein Matterhorn area and from here in 2 hours to the top. The great views from the summit are definitely worth the effort. In the first afternoon return to Cervinia.
At the end of the day around 4.00pm, then we will make an assessment of the course.
Duration: from 5 to 6 hours of skiing.
