Ski touring basic course (Aosta valley)

Description

Go for 3 days of ski touring at the Grand-Saint-Bernard Valley, in Italy, in order to learn all the technical notions necessary for the realization of simple ski touring outings.

The objective is to perform off-piste skiing and ski touring in mid-mountain areas with regular slopes where learning is facilitated by the morphology of the terrain but also by the variable characteristics of the snow.

You will learn the first rules to use avalanche beacon and the technical knowledge necessary to choose which routes are feasible and which are not.

Educational content of the course:

• Learn the technical knowledge necessary to progress in uphill ski touring.
• Learn the technical knowledge necessary to progress in off-piste skiing.
• Learn the basics of avalanche beacons.
• Learn the basics to choose outings that may or may not be done.

Program

Day 1: Ski touring in Crevacol ski resort (Gran-San-Bernardo / Aosta valley in Italy).
Meet at 8.30 am at the scheduled location.
Learning of the technical progress to climb different slope inclinations. Teaching on the use of avalanche beacon, shovel and probe. The rest of the day will be dedicated to off-piste skiing techniques in the ski area.
At 4pm conclusion of the day and organization of the following day on the basis of meteorological and snow documentation.
B&B at the inn.

Day 2: Ski touring to Col Serena (2545m).
Meet at 8.30am. During the ascent, we will begin to put into practice what we learned the previous day and apply it throughout the route. In the afternoon, we will have workshops on avalanche beacon searches, probing, and shoveling. We will also apply the methodology learned the previous day for choosing a route.

Day 3: Ski touring summit in Gran-San-Bernardo valley.
Our choice of which outing to participate in will stem from the application of fundamental risk management methodology. The route is designed to teach and apply the various topics covered. We will return to the cars and conclude the day's activities and the training course.
