Hiking in the Ospedale (Southern Corsica)

Description

Just half an hour's drive north of Porto-Vecchio and the Mediterranean coast, I invite you to discover the natural and historical heritage of the magical place of Ospédale, nestled between mysterious forests and granite rock formations.

In the heart of the Alta Rocca region, a veritable citadel of stone of the southern Corsica mountains, the Ospédale is an artificial lake whose waters are held back by a dam built in the late 70s. Situated at an altitude of 900 meters, it offers an idyllic environment and is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts. The flora here is made up of Lariccio pines and beech trees, as well as scrubland and garrigue. The geology also contributes to the beauty of the area, thanks to the pink granite. Last but not least, the fauna is not left out, and you will be able to observe some mouflons, lizards, frogs, cows and wild pigs.

Around midday, we will take time to enjoy a picnic lunch in front of one of the most beautiful panoramas of southern Corsica.

In short, everything is in place to ensure you have an unforgettable day and leave you with wonderful memories!

Required equipment:

• Shoes suitable for mountain walking.
• A backpack.
• A water bottle or flask (1.5 liters per person).
• Energy foods (cereal bars, dried fruit, etc.).
• Sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen.
• A waterproof windbreaker or rain poncho.
• Warm clothing such as a sweater or fleece.

Contact me if you are missing any equipment. Hiking poles, windbreakers, and baby carriers are available to borrow.

Make sure you have a full tank of gas (there are no gas stations in the mountains) and cash (there are no ATMs).

Note: I may decide to change the program or cancel the hike if weather is unfavorable.

If you want to continue the adventure, I also propose other beautiful hikes to discover southern Corsica in a different way:

• a hike along the secret paths of Bavella,
• a magnificent discovery of the Pozzi,
• some hiking to Monte Renoso
• and a beautiful day hike on the Coscione plateau (also possible with during winter with snowshoes).

Program

• Meet at 9am in Porto-Vecchio (departure from the Ospedale road) or at 9.30am at Cartalavonu crossroads before Ospedale lake .
• Departure of the hike to the Ospedale at 9.35am.
• Picnic lunch on the spot.
• Return to vehicles around 3pm.
• A total of 3 hours of hiking and a positive altitude difference of 300 meters.

The price includes

• Supervision by the mountain leader.
• Coffee and organic canistrelli (Corsican cookies) during the morning break (fruit compote and orange juice for children).

The price does not include

• Return transport to Porto-Vecchio or Cartalavonu crossroads.
• Return transfer to the start of the hike.
• Optional Corsican picnic: 10€ per person (bread, Corsican charcuterie, ewe's milk cheese with organic fig jam, canistrelli, coffee, chilled rosé wine, etc.).
  All the ingredients for the Corsican picnic are locally produced, and I take pride in offering you top-quality local products, kept in coolers until you are ready to enjoy them.
