Hiking to the Pozzi (Southern Corsica)

Description

I propose you to follow me and discover a unique place of the Corsican Southern mountains: the Pozzi, which will enchant for sure young and old.

During this easy hike starting from the Verde Pass, you will walk and discover a valley of soft lawns crossed by a torrent with limpid water and dotted with numerous basins. Indeed, here the flat, green landscapes are in stark contrast to the more arid places usually found on the island of beauty. Situated at an altitude of over 1700 meters, this environment is conducive to the development of a remarkable flora, with the presence of numerous species of mountain flowers. It is also one of the few places where you can observe pozzines, peat bogs dotted with waterholes linked by natural channels dug by the flow of melted snow, a legacy of Corsica's ice age.

We will have a picnic lunch together in this incredible site, then I will show you all the wonders of this place. On the way back down, you will be able to appreciate the ancestral way of life of the Corsican shepherds during a stop at the Pozzi sheepfolds.

In short, everything is in place to ensure you have an unforgettable day and leave you with wonderful memories!

Required equipment:

• Shoes suitable for mountain walking.
• A backpack.
• A water bottle or flask (1 liter per person, you can refill your water bottle with spring water for the return trip).
• Energy foods (cereal bars, dried fruit, etc.).
• Sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen.
• A waterproof windbreaker or rain poncho.
• Warm clothing such as a sweater or fleece.

Contact me if you are missing any equipment. Hiking poles, windbreakers, and baby carriers are available to borrow.

Make sure you have a full tank of gas (there are no gas stations in the mountains) and cash (there are no ATMs).

Note: I may decide to change the program or cancel the hike if weather is unfavorable.

Program

• Meet at 8am in the village of Ghisonaccia or at 8.30am in those of Ghisoni, one hour drive south of Corte.
• Departure of the hike at the Col de Verde at 9.15am.
• Picnic lunch on the spot.
• Return to the parking lot of Verde Pass around 5pm.
• 4 and a half hours of hiking, positive altitude difference of 500 meters.

The price includes

• Supervision by the mountain leader.
• Coffee and organic canistrelli (Corsican cookies) during the morning break (fruit compote and orange juice for children).

The price does not include

• Return transport to the villages of Ghisonaccia or Ghisoni.
• Optional Corsican picnic: 10€ per person (bread, Corsican charcuterie, ewe's milk cheese with organic fig jam, canistrelli, coffee, chilled rosé wine, etc.).
  All the ingredients for the Corsican picnic are locally produced, and I take pride in offering you top-quality local products, kept in coolers until you are ready to enjoy them.
