Description
I offer you a more technical alternative to the normal route to climb a well-known summit: the Huyana Potosi, an imposing pyramid of snow and ice which stands at an altitude of 6,088 meters not far from the city of La Paz in Bolivia from where it is clearly visible.
The French route that you will climb together offers a superb Andean experience, starting with a vast glacier to then cross a steep face of snow and ice and finally ending with a fine snowy ridge of great beauty. This route is absolutely recommended for the most demanding climbers!
If you want to mountaineer on other beautiful peaks in the Bolivian Andes, I also offer:
- to achieve the ascents of Chachacomani and Chearoco,
- to climb the normal route of Huayna Potosi,
- the ascent of the normal route of Illimani,
- to climb Wila Lluxita and cross Janq'Uyu - Jisk'a Pata,
- 4 days to reach the summit of Illampu,
- the ascent of the Sajama volcano
- and Ancohuma in the Eastern Cordillera.
Program
Day 1: Climb to the "Las Rockas" hut.
Transfer from La Paz to Zongo Pass.
This journey is an opportunity to enjoy very beautiful views of the Huyana Potosi which we will climb the next day.
Hike to the "Las Rockas" refuge.
2 hours of walking, 400 meters of elevation gain.
Day 2: Ascent of Hyuayna Potosi via the French route.
Very early departure for 6 hours of ascent and 900 meters of elevation gain.
After following the normal route, we will branch off to reach the foot of the steep east face, 150 meters high, which we will climb to the summit.
Technical difficulties: slopes up to 55 degrees (65 degrees if there is a cornice).
Descent by the normal route to find the refuge then the Zongo pass and our vehicle.
Return to La Paz at the end of the afternoon and according to the outing schedule.

- Supervision by the English-speaking mountain guide (1 guide / 2 people).
