Description

I'd like to introduce you to a small, relatively unknown but easily accessible mountain range: Bolivia's Cordillera Oriental. The Janqu Qhuta region is ideal for learning mountaineering techniques (in this case: Andinism) on snow, ice and mixed terrain, with the added bonus of beautiful views over lakes of all colors.

These 3 days are an opportunity to climb Wila Lluxita (5268m) and realize the Janq'Uyu (5504m) - Jisk'a Pata crossing.

If you're interested in other climbs in Bolivia, I also suggest you climb Chachacomani and Chearoco in the Cordillera Real, Huayna Potosi above La Paz and the aesthetically pleasing Nevado Illimani.

Program

D1: La Paz - Peñas.
Drive through the Bolivian Altiplano.
Acclimatization walk (4 hours, 300 meters ascent) around Peñas to visit Chiripa rock paintings and colonial ruins.
We take advantage of the surrounding crags to revise roping and abseiling techniques.

D2: Snow school and ascent of Wila Lluxita.
Fast, easy and educational ascent.
Arrival on a sharp peak overlooking the Altiplano on one side and the jungle on the other.

D3: Janq'Uyu - Jisk'a Pata traverse.
Beautiful traverse with varied passages on glacier, snow ridge and granite rock. This mountaineering route is spectacular!

Supervision by the English-speaking mountain guide (1 guide / 2 persons).
Private transport La Paz - Peñas - Janqu Qhuta (round trip).
The cook and complete food (breakfast, lunch and dinner), with drinking water at will.
Tents and foam mattresses.
