Hiking on Lure mountain (North Lubéron)

Description

I suggest you go together to the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department for a "cool" hike on Lure mountain, the "little sister" of the famous and majestic Mont Ventoux!

From Notre-Dame de Lure abbey, we will follow an itinerary that will give you the opportunity to discover this mountain, superb citadel which overhangs the Durance valley and which is a gateway to the department of Hautes-Alpes.

Located in the northern part of the Lubéron massif, this route designed for experienced hikers offers you a magnificent path between beech forests and sharp ridges, without forgetting the exceptional panoramas on the Alps summits and the foothills of Provence.

The hike to the summit is also an opportunity to learn about the history of the men who have boldly frequented the area over the centuries: shepherds, charcoal makers, peddlers...

The advantages of this hike:

• a wilderness route,
• a cool hike on Mont Ventoux's "little sister",
• the discovey of Notre-Dame de Lure and its superb beech forests.

This hike is accessible if you are able to walk quietly and are used to walking on varied terrain. Regular physical activity is a plus to get the most out of the day.

Perhaps this outing will make you want to climb the mountain of Lure in the middle of the afternoon to admire the sunset from its summit.

And if you want to continue to explore the North part of Lubéron in a different way, you should follow me in the gorges of Oppedette hike, to discover the home produce of Banon region and the goat cheese or on the "Saut du Moine" trail from Valsaintes Abbey.

• Meet at Notre-Dame de Lure abbey parking lot at 7.30 am.
• Departure from the 12^th century abbey, a magnificent building guarded by superb lime trees.

• Return to the cars around 4pm.
