Hiking in the Oppedette gorges (North Luberon)

Description

In the heart of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, I invite you to come and explore the spectacular canyon of the Oppedette's gorges on foot.

Hidden below the old village of Oppedette and accessible only by hiking, this beautiful canyon offers you a fantastic immersion into the heart of nature, among Urgonian limestone rocks carved out by water runoff, to find the freshness of the Cavalon river which has been flowing through these gorges for thousands of years.

A veritable gash in the limestone plateau of the Luberon massif (the narrowest point, the Oppedette pass, is only one meter wide!), these deep gorges contain a small river at their bottom, which we will reach. We will complete this hike with a visit to the village of Oppedette, perched on its rock at an altitude of over 500 meters, and we will return via a ridge path that offers a magnificent panorama on the surrounding landscapes.

The advantages of this hike:

• A wild and little-traveled route, as well as the descent into the spectacular gorges.
• A fun discovery of the gorges and the perched village of Oppedette.

This hike is accessible if you are able to walk quietly on varied terrain.

• Climbing the Lure mountain (also possible in the evening to admire the sunset from the summit),
• A discovery of the Luberon terroir and goat's cheese.
• Or a hike along the Saut du Moine trail from Valsaintes abbey.

Program

• Meet at 8am at the gorges parking lot, above the village of Oppedette.
• About 3 hours of walking on stony paths with ladders and handrails to reach the bottom of the gorges.
• Positive and negative altitude differences: 300 meters.
• A little-used, pleasant, and very enjoyable route in a wild environment.
• Return to the parking lot of the gorges at the end of the morning.

The price does not include

• Return transport to the village of Oppedette, one hour and a half drive from Digne-les-Bains or Avignon, and 40 minutes from Forcalquier.
• The essential sun cream.
